Many of the most famous and richest people of the previous generation started working in companies at the age of 15.

Unfortunately, those jobs don't really exist any more. And those jobs were the equivalent of washing dishes.

When you start working you have to start somewhere, and that is usually at the bottom. Washing dishes in a restaurant, flipping burgers. You can apply at deparment store and supermarket chains. Just go in and ask for a job application form. The work is probably a little bit more varied, and there is more opportunity to learn about how an organisation runs, because they are larger organisations.

Most employers feel that young people are not that responsible, so a job running errands in companies are fairly rare. However, if you present well, seem serious and responsible, then you never know.

Look for work in summer related industries (the pay is often higher and they will employ anyone). These could be in farming, canneries, or tourist locations.

I know that young people are better educated, more knowledgable than past generations, and this makes it frustrating to have to start in some mind numbing job. But these jobs will give you work discipline, and then the following year you will have opportunities to do something more interesting.

This is why working in a big department store or supermarket can be a benefit. Over time they may offer you more responsibility.
