23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

What is in your heart, will come out. For example if you are bitter, and never release it, you will let bitterness come out. What you meditate on will get inside of your soul, and you will live by that.

Proverbs 4:23
Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.

Ephesians says to put on the breastplate of righteousness. The breastplate protects the heart of the soldier. We are to do the same.

Philippians 4:7
...and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

John 7:38
"He who believes in Me (Jesus), as the Scripture has said (in Proverbs), out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

I like the New Living Translation:

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do."

"Heart" here refers to feelings, thoughts etc. that are said to emanate from there.

Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.
I think it means we have to be careful what we think about because our character becomes what we think about.

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

To me, this says that given out flippantly, the heart can become broken (torn, etc.). I see this as meaning the spring of one's life can run dry, causing heartache and despair, the exact opposite of what God desires for all of us.

I believe it means to watch what you accept as truth.

It is saying to be careful what you believe. There's tons of messages out there, but there's only one truth, and His name is Jesus.

If you believe in Jesus, everything in your life is wonderful. If you don't believe, your life is sad.
