My tattoo is 3 days old. It is on the top of my foot. I am not suppose to wear socks/shoes for two weeks. I am a softball coach.... it is worse for the tattoo to be exposed to the sun or to be in a sock?

Sun is far worse. The sun will fade it. Put on sun screen, wear socks that don't have fuzzies on the inside and do not tie your shoe super tight. Just enough to keep it on but not tight tight. Less pressure and cutting back friction between shoe and sock on your skin. Call your tattoo arist, I would have mentioned this when getting it. Tattoos in those areas are good for getting in winter ... one less temptation and possible problem.

-No neosporn ... remove your socks asap. The point about dirt is good, keeping it clean is better than getting dirt all over it.

You should definitely wear socks. Not only do you have to worry about the sun, but on a softball field there is alot of dirt and dust being kicked around that can get into your tattoo and irritate it, maybe even cause infection. Your best bet is to put whatever ointment you are using on your tattoo and Gauze over then your sock. Don't leave your Gauze and sock on for any longer than you have to though.

worse to be in the sun. just tape some gauze around it with a light layer of lotion of over the tattoo to prevent rubbing of the sock on the tattoo. even when tattoos are fully healed its best to keep them out of the sun. but thats not always possible.

for the time that you are coaching, put neosporin on the tat, cover it with gauze. Then slip the sock over it.
You're not supposed to wear socks, so they don't rub against the tattoo.

both is bad. i say continue wearing sandals or flip flops and just make sure your foot is in the shade when you are out in the sun. it's possible, i try to always make sure my feet are in the shade when i'm outside.

good luck!
