Most of the time, I bring it into the house and flush it down the toilet. I've been lucky so far (knock on wood) ... I haven't dropped any in the house en route to the bathroom!

Like a lot of people I feed raw food and have less mess to clean up! It's not as smelly either! I only use bags, that are supposed to be enviromentally friendly, for odd emergencies or when away from home as I train all my dogs to go in the yard, or on command. That gets put in the garden compost!
You face a heavy fine where I live for allowing ANY dog to foul the streets or parks.
Land-fill isn't good for the enviroment anyway!

I bought a little container that snaps onto the dogs' lead in case she 'goes' during a walk. The rolls of bags that go inside this are biodegradable and not expensive.

At home I have a worm farm for putting the dog droppings in. As I feed raw the poop pretty much turns to dust within days anyway. There are three layers and as the worms move into the top one, the bottom one full of natural fertilizer goes into the garden. And no it doesn't smell.

The vacuum cleaner dirt, vegetable peelings that the rabbits won't eat and cut hair also get put in with the worms. I also use the worms to feed my turtles!

No it is not environmentally friendly but there is no alternative because leaving the poop that will disappear in a couple of days is considered a no-no.
I believe that they sell bags that are environmentally friendly, but I am sure they are expensive. I guess when we are over run with garbage, people will think of other alternatives.

I feed raw so I do not have much to clean up.

If you mean the ones at the grocery stores than no. They are not biodegradable. I know some store have stopped using them and have only paper bags now.
They do sell some at pet stores that are earth friendly.

As far as picking up after your dog while outside your yard than yes it needs to be done. We have a law here in our town if your dog poops and you dont pick it up and are caught then it's a 100 dollar fine!

I don't think so.... unless you're using the new ones made out of cornstarch.

I clean up the yard (when I get to it) and dump what little there is in the compost heap. One of the really really nice things about raw feeding is VERY little poop and what there is disinitegrates quickly. 4 big dogs.. I clean the yard once a week and get about half a shovelfull.

I guess it would depend on what you are using ~ I use biodegradable bags when I clean up after my dogs. Leaving it for someone else to do or just leaving it period to me is unsanitary and just plain nasty. When I got my dogs I swore to be totally responsible for them and if it means cleaning up after them then so be it....

I think Goldengal is right, but if you already have the bags from the store it's a better use for them to clean up dog poop than throwing them away. If you have them and don't use them, it means you have to use something else (even environmentally friendly) to clean up the poop.

It is questions like this that make me sooooo glad I own Shih Tzu pups, not Great Danes! I never pick up after them. One good rain, and here in the "Sunshine State" we get plenty, and I don't have anything left to pick up!!!

****And I would NEVER get paper bags from the grocery store!! YUCK!!! I have got some German Roach stories to tell you that CAME from stores in paper bags!!!
