I've tried to reach out to family but they're no help. All my mom does is reiterate my problems as well as my brother. Neither one of them believes in me and it's so discouraging. My aunt she just doesn't care. I don't have any friends so they can't help since they aren't there. You see I failed my first year of college and right now I don't see this year being anymore promising. A lot of my classes require reading which I hate to do. My attention span sucks! Then I'm always late for class and everything else. My life is so out of order. I come in from class and get right on my laptop and goof off and I'm too lazy to do my real work. I 'm trying to rreach out for some type of help cuz right now I feel my life is going nowhere fast : (

sounds like alot of folks i knew around their first year of college ... and all worked out fine.

think about the good things you do have, count your blessings and be patient, ... with patience comes good things.

lifting you up in prayer

PSALM 32

Prayer of trust in God.
A Psalm of David. A maskil.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.

For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

The first year of college is hard for lots of people. It's a big change from high school. Then, too, college isn't for everybody. Or, it might just be the wrong time for you to go to college - you just aren't ready yet for an environment that requires so much discipline. Lots of the responses you have here sound like reasonable alternatives. Take a year off from school and work somewhere. If you can afford it, maybe take a backpack tour of Europe (something I always wanted to do). When you're ready to take college more seriously and apply yourself, go back to school part time so it won't overwhelm you. You're honest enough to admit that you are easily sidetracked and a bit lazy, and that's a good sign. The more honest you can be about your situation, the more likely it is that a solution will be found. Maybe you're just still too stressed out about failing last year and subconsciously don't see the point in moving forward right now. Do you have an academic adviser? It couldn't hurt to ask for help.

You said yourself that you are "too lazy to do real work." That speaks volumns. However, if you are serious about being encouraged I would suggest you get up off your back side and stop feeling sorry for yourself, apply yourself, complete your education and be all you can be.

Only you can bring order to your life. How? By stopping some of the things you are doing. That is a choice. You can choose to be lazy or you can choose to be a "go-getter."

Sometimes family members are not so encouraging. But I suggest that you find some positive friends to influence you. Find someone that can help you with your studies.

Good luck to you.

It's sounds like you may have a learning disorder. Before I go any further I want to let you know that it is not the end of the world. Some people do not get diagnosed until they are in college or are adults. Go to your colleges Health Clinic and have them give you some written and physical tests. You may have ADHD. It causes you to be unfocused, late and procrastinate when it comes to doing school work or reading. I hope I didn't write too much. Please have someone help you.

I went to college right after high school and it was disaster.
I kept thinking, "what am I doing here, I'm sick to death of school".
So I took some time off. I did take some classes here and there, Sociology, psychology, some on line classes. One semester on- one off. I got a job, got an apartment, played around. Then I got tired of being poor. I'd make just enough money to pay bills and that's it.

I didn't graduate college until I was 32. And that's OK. Cause then I didn't goof off, I payed attention in class, I cared.
God bless and good luck with your parents.

Discipline is the key.
Keep a schedule book; plan out how many minutes a day you are going to study a subject you don't like; this way, you can do it and say, "oh well, it's only 29 minutes of this."
Schedule some of the work each day so it doesn't all bunch up on you.
Hang in there....discipline is really what you need.
Enthusiasm will come naturally if you switch your major to something you really like.

Cod liver oil (or other fish oils) can help with concentration. Other helps such as St. John's wart for mood stability can be found and researched online.

Also; if you find that something sucks, or you don't like doing it, but it is necessary, do it anyway. Soon it will begin to suck less, and eventually you may even enjoy it. I was this way with study, reading and studying scriptural laws, it is coming to the point that I love few things more.

Oh, I recommend non emulsified Cod liver oil, it is practically tasteless in the liquid form and totally tasteless in pill form.

College sort of requires reading. It sounds like you know perfectly well what the problem is--the next step is actually DOING something about it. Either you're simply not mature enough for college yet, or there's something medically wrong with your attention span.

Just because college isn't for you, doesn't mean you can't learn a trade, or find a career that will be meaningful and that you'll enjoy. If you hate school so much, take some time off, work a crummy job, and you'll maybe get an idea that doing class work isn't so bad...

Well, if you realize that dawdling on the computer is your problem, try to set limitations for yourself so you don't spend the whole day on it! As for not having the attention span, it is hard, but if you remove all other distractions when you study, you will have little other choice, right?
