Help, In February I got a crown put on my tooth. It's been fine but now it hurts again. Is it crown related? Can you get a cavity in a tooth with a crown or is it a automatically more serious because it has a crown? I'm so scared of what my dentist will say and am too broke to pay for anything complicated.

Yes, if the prep work was bad (did not remove all decay) or if it was not sealed right and let decay in...of course it will decay. Actually, I think it will decay faster (as there is no enamel covering on the ground down stub).

If the crown was not made correctly and the step is too great, the gum will get irritated and hurt like all can be also. If you had a root canal done before the cap, you know that it is gum irritation. Either way, go get it fixed...some warranty their work.

It is possible to get a cavity underneath the crown but it is very unlikely for a crown that was just placed in february. The crown might just need a slight adjustment which is very common. You might be hitting on the crown everytime you bite down which could be causing you discomfort. Get it checked out, it might not be as bad as you think.

If you didn't get a root canal when the crown was put on, it could now be developing other issues from before or from the work that was done. Best have it checked, and don't wait if it's really bothering you. Good luck.

Yes, it is possible, if the crown is not fitted properly. From http://aches.in/toothache.html
