The way the tyres are measured is a mixture of imperial and metric. The stock size is 265mm wide on an 18 inch rim. the 70 refers to the height of the sidewall of the tyre which in stock size is 70% of the width of the tyre i.e.185.5mm. The sidewall height of the 275/70/18 tyre is 192.5mm. If you work out the circumferance of each tyre, you will see that in theory, the defference is 44mm or about 1.5%. The best way to compensate for using a wider tyre is to use a lower profile tyre, i.e 285/65/18 tyre is only 0.25mm smaller than the stock tyre, but is 20mm (3/4 inch) wider.

The Speedometer The speedometer in particularly much each motor vehicle runs off the cost of the transmission, not the honestly tires. besides the undeniable fact that, some old Volkswagens and different makes and fashions do have a speedometer cable that runs directly to the front wheels, yet it is quite uncommon. The gears that are rotating interior the transmission will spin at a regular value for each speed the motor vehicle travels at, and it is transferred to the speedometer via a magnetic contemporary regular as an "Eddy contemporary." the swifter the gears spin, the greater electromagnetic field is created and the added the needle is going up on the speedometer interior the dashboard. consequently, as long because of the fact the wheels and tires are inventory sized, the speedometer will study accurately. enable's look at why changing tire length could influence the speedometer. Altered Tire length for people who've off-highway automobiles and placed larger tires on for greater beneficial overall performance on the direction, the speedometer would be affected. because of the fact there is greater floor section and a much bigger circumference on the exterior fringe of the tire, the wheels will honestly spin slower at any given speed than the inventory setup could. consequently, the speedometer interior the motor vehicle will study decrease than the honestly speed this is being traveled. Likewise, a smaller tire on a low-rider, working example, will could desire to spin swifter than a inventory one to maintain the comparable speed, and consequently will reason the speedometer to study swifter than the honestly value traveled. this is mandatory comprehend this for close by speed rules and protection usually. the swifter the motor vehicle is going, the added off the speedometer would be. whilst the motor vehicle is sitting nevertheless, the speedometer will study 0 with the two set of tires on. besides the undeniable fact that, as quickly as the motor vehicle starts off rolling, the discrepancy grows.

I don't know if that size will fit, but if it does, your speedometer will read slow, and engine RPM will be lower at any given speed than with stock tires. This will effectively give you slightly less power, but a higher top speed. All these differences will be very small, and if the tires don't rub, it won't really cause any problems.

As long as you do not lower the vehicle at all it should be fine. That is a small difference on hight and if it is not rubbing the car at all, which that much should not change much. You might be a couple of miles off on the speed and odometer for changing the tires. I would not really worry about it much at all.
