I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THERE'S NOTHING ON EARTH S TRONGER THAN A BRITISH SOLDIER.
WE HAVE ALREADY PROVEN TO THE WORLD WHAT WE CAN DO, AND WE HAVE DONE SO MANY TIMES. REMENBER WWII, WHILE EVERYBODY WAS CRACKING UNDEER THE GERMANS, HOW WE STOOD UO AND SAVED THE WORLD. I HEREBY TAKE RESPONSABILITY TO SAY THAT WE, BRITAIN WON WWII. I LOVE OUR COUNTRY.

For pure military power and reach, the US. They have more long range capabilities than any other country. The have more air lift assets than all of NATO combined. They also have the most technology advanced large military in the world.
People have said China for number two, I disagree. They can not operate for long outside of China. The have very few logistical assets. Their long range strike, aside from ICBMs, can only reach Taiwan. The are building a Navy but in a scenario where the fight the US only their subs would be able to operate outside of the zone of protection provide by their air force.
Russia would be a good number two. The country is large enough they can move between Asia and Europe and the Middle East without having a long supply line. Although, their army is very poorly trained and have shown it in Chesney.
For number two we are considering being able to operate outside of their country effectively, for long periods of time, it would have to be the UK. The are the only military that comes close to US long range strategic potential.

Best equipped does not necessarily mean the best army in the world and this was proven by the Korean and Vietnam wars. I suppose it has all to do with the leadership and the will of the army. Fighting for a cause and for God and country also make a great difference to the outcome of a war. The brits did put up a great fight against the germans as in the movies but it was the red army that drove them back relentlessly and won the war.
For sheer strength and defense, I think China has the best army.
For best equipped, the USA.
For stubboness, the brits.
For strategy, defense and offense, the Israeli army is the best of all.
Due to erosion the russian army is not what it used to be and cannot be assesed but it is still an army to be reckoned with especially its rugged terrain and its nuclear arsenal and long range missiles.

If your are talking about individual soldier you may be correct. Britain has some of the strongest and most courageous soldiers there are but as a country's army.... the British army doesn't have the numbers. The country doesn't have the natural resources and mass infrastructure to switch over to war like Russia, China, and the US.
There is no doubt Britain made there stand and helped turned the tied in WW2 but if Hitler didn't make the mistake and attack Russia we would all be speaking German right now. Hitler used over half his army to attack one country (Russia) and used the rest to fight the rest of the world. Had all his resources been sent against Britain, US, France, Italy, and everyone else there is a very slim chance he would of failed.
The US has the best army because of technology with China in a close second but with a mass population advantage.

The best trained and best-led army in the world is, and always has been, the British Army. No other army comes even close in that department.
For power and equipment there is no doubt that the US Army comes second. Whatever their inadequacies - and there are LOTS - they are ultimately backed up by the most financially powerful nation on Earth and thus endless equipment, and, even more ultimately, by a massive arsenal of nuclear weapons.
But third, we must give the Swiss Army some credit. Yes, I know, all they have to do is guard the massive wealth of the nation (much of it deposited by Nazis after the War in Europe that Switzerland, as always, avoided), cuckoo clocks and Toblerone, but they do it all with their little knives with loads of gadgets. How good is that?

I agree with you Essex Ron, Britain does have the best trained/committed soldiers in the world, though for military might & budget, the US has it.
As for the most trained/experienced/respected army in the world, the... British SAS.
I also believe people forget about:-
British Gurkhas
Australian SAS
New Zealand SAS
Polish SAS
Sadly, our military has been cut for many years (especially under the present Labour government), hopefully, one day soon, our military will once again be a leading military might.
Just my input.

It would be wise, in this question and answers sequence, to remember guerrilla armies. They have changed the course of many a nation. No one knows how many they number. By their very nature, that must be kept a secret. Still, I look back at the Romans. They were bigger and more powerful, in their time, than all of the Armies today. And they fell.
