I know like a lot of other things in the bible there tend to be riddles and hidden meanings. Someone please enlighten me.

Right...so my actual point is if God inspired the writings of the bible then what kind of God would inspire that...?

Perhaps I'll just flat out ask that next time.

What people do is one thing. To record what they do is truth. This is not the worst thing men have done in the Bible, you have only scratched the surface.

But to answer your question, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was so huge, the daughters of Lot assumed the entire earth had been destroyed.

Did they consult God? No, they acted in their own best interest based on the attitudes they had picked up in Sodom--that is, any kind of sex (incestuous or otherwise) was all acceptible.

Also note that two of Israel's greatest enemies came out of this unholy union--the Moabites and the Ammonites.

All these must be taken in consideration regarding this chapter in Genesis.

The real meaning is that Lot had sex with his two daughters. This was after they left Sodom and Lot's wife had been turned to salt--after being told not look back. Apparently this was not Lot's idea --as the daughters got him drunk.
The Bible has no riddles are hidden messages. At the time of Christ --the Jews understood the parables he told. Other places like Revelation- the people of that time understood the references.

When God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot and His family were spared. However, God told them not to look back at the city being destroyed, but Lot's wife did, therefore, she turned into a pillar of salt. (this represents us looking back on our old, or sinful ways, instead of looking ahead to the Lord). Anyway, Lot was left, and his two daughters. The daughters conspired to get their father drunk, so he would sleep with them, and get them pregnant so they could preserve the family line.(since their mother was a pillar of salt, and could not bear anymore children!) So, they did just that, and they both bore children from their father. He was too drunk to know what he was doing, though, so in this way they deceived him.
The Bible does not say that this was a GOOD thing, though!

You seem to think that every
one did everything right who
are spoken of in the Bible???
Sorry...the same crazy motives
that are in earth today were
in the earth in ancient times.
The 2 daughters of Lot.
In their juvenile minds, they
reasoned that there were no
other males to give them children and they wanted the
name of their father to continue on in the earth. So
they determined to become
pregnant by their father.
I'm not sure that incest had
the same stigma back then
as it does now, but in any
case...they felt they had no
other choice and for good or
bad...that's what they did.
Should we change history?
Are you condemning them for
being wrong? There is no
hidden meaning here. It just
tells you what happened.
Accept or don't accept. It's up
to you.

Please study the story of Lot unless you are a Bible skeptic...

Lot was a backslider, whatever happened to Him was not God's perfect will.

First he chose by sight and not by faith, then he pitched his camp toward Sodom. Later on he became a gate officer and all his possessions were gone. He shared it to the Sodomites and his children learned of the ways of the city and even his wife can't stand the destruction of Sodom.

His 2 remaining daughters learned incest from Sodom. Instead of going back to Abraham, he rather chose to live in spiritual defeat inside a cave. His 2 daughters were worried and did not even prayed to God to ask for a husband...

When Lot left with his daughters, that was it. They knew that they couldn't marry out of their people, so they sinned and had children by their dad. The descendants were problems for the future Israelites. Women thought it was a bad thing to be childless.

whats confusing?

2 women, survive, what is as far as they know, the destruction of humanity.
so they take measures to attempt to have a child with who is as far a they know, the only surviving male.

(you know, trying to repopulate the world and stuff)

it just so happens that the male is their father, so the measures are basically getting him drunk out of his mind, hussying up as prostitudes, and making it with him in his drunken delusion.

What is there to understand.
The daughters, fearing all men were gone, ply-ed their father with wine and raped him.
Their offspring came to be enemies of God.

Clearly, the daughter committed incest in an attempt to become pregnant, thus continuing their generation.
