A false Idol is acctually an untrue representation. If you gave Jesus a freckle he didnt have it would be a flase idol.
Also Gurruntee me that Jesus Looked Just like he does in the various paintings.
The picture thing, good point. But when your girlfriend is over you dont make out with her picture. If god is in every thing why do you need to carry him around on a chain?
More perteneant why is your favorite image of him one of torture and agony? I love the crucifixtion story. (not in the sadistic way) Its a good story. Its best when you tell the religious part to F*** off. Its quite a brilliant and heart moving tragedy. Its also true. ( I dont deny Jesus existed as a person, that would be foolish.)
Victory by technicallity. You cant prove beyond a doubt that Jesus did look exactly like his paintings. Im not even sure they where developed when he was alive. but becuse I dont know I wont argue.
Im assuming you agree that the saints then are not false Idols? Now that the pope has gone and removed the adaptatins of pagan gods and heros you cant say they were not real. (You can argue that some of them dont deserve saint hood... Theres a few that are more then questionable)

It is idolatry. Jesus is alive and He lives within us. He is not in a statue made with wood or clay and Mary never should be bowed down to. We serve a jealous God. We are told to not put anything or anyone before Him. We are told not to make a graven image of anything in heaven or on the earth. This is the second commandment of God in Exodus 20.
I too love the Lord with all my heart and because of these statues and pictures of Christ I think that is who I am longing for to see. That statue has us fooled or that picture has us fooled because Christ will not look like that. We've even seen many movie stars portray Christ and this is all falsehood. Apostle John in Revelation tried to tell us what he saw in heaven in his vision of the Second Coming of Christ. In no way does that vision even seem to look like the statues, pictures and movie stars that we have seen portraying Christ.
Maybe this is the reason that God said do not make graven images. He even said that many would come saying that they are Christ and He said don't believe them. His Second Coming will be glorious and every eye will see Him. Scripture tells us that Christ does not return as the humble man born to the virgin Mary. He returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords with great power and the Almighty God.

It CAN be. Some people seem to have a problem seperating the image from the person.
I once tried to explain to my protestant friend tha Catholics do NOT worship Mary. I then tried to back up my argument with the opinion of another catholic in the break room. She smiled and freely admitted to worshipping Mary.
Gee, thanks! That was JUST what I needed!!! Never trust a little old lady with prayer beads!

Yes it would be idoltry for several reasons. one Jesus or Mary is not in a human body anymore and as such that is only a picture of a suposed dead person. They both have spirit bodies and are not flesh and blood.
Jesus said to worship only the father. John 14:28 my father is greater than I am.
so we pray only to the father, by kneeling it means we ask all prayers in the name of Jesus Christ or he the father doesn't hear us.

Now, that image your praying to, is that how Jesus really looked like? If not, your prayers are going to someone else. You shall have no graven images. Theres one mediator between God and Man and thats Jesus. No prayer should be sent to his mother. She can't save you

God said that "Ye shall have no other images before me". (I paraphrase) If you kneel in prayer to anyone other than Jesus (God), that is idolatry. That includes praying to the Virgin Mary. She was not a god. She was just a human woman that God chose to give birth to His son.

confident! as much as three say no to this question, they are incorrect.. The bible and our God says no graven image.. Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt no longer make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of something it somewhat is in heaven above, or it somewhat is interior the earth under, or it somewhat is interior the water below the earth.
