Being the oldest does not insure it is the right one. It was prophecied that after the death of the apostles a great falling away would occur and that apostacy would set in. So the next church after their death would have to be false religion.
So they only way to know which religion wasn't a false religion was to find one that actually taught what Jesus taught while he was on the earth and reject religions that seem to mirror the Pharisees.

The first place Believers met together was of course Jerusalem.

The oldest church in continuous use today, is in Ethiopia.
