I know its a dumb question, but here is the story. To begin with, my dog is in heat (started last Monday) and we have been taking well care of her so that no dog comes near her. I want to get her spayed but don't have the money for it (need to find a place where it can be done free of charge). Well, anyways, we rent a room to a cousin of ours and this past weekend, we have had special events to attend to. Because of the hot weather, we left our dog inside the house without her "panties/pad". However, this stupid cousin of ours decided to let her out and left her there in the backyard while he took a shower. While he was taking a shower, a male dog sneaked inside the backyard and did who knows what. By the time the dumb person came out, he couldn't tell if they were "together" or not. So now, I am left wondering if my doggie is pregnant! Is there a way I can tell if she is pregnant? And can I have her spayed ASAP even if she is pregnant?? Please help!

Get her spayed low cost at a petco/petsmart or the humane society. I am sure the humane society will have it low cost and will be able to work out payments with you. Yes you can get her spayed.
have a nice day :)

Yes you can have your dog spayed while pregnant, but depending on the vet... he or she may not do it while she's pregnant and/or will charge you more for the spay if it is done. During pregnancy the uterus is infused with a lot of blood to nourish the pups and the spay is more difficult because of the engorgement.
Pups will whelp about 62 days after fertilization. Hopefully she's not pregnant, but if she is, feed her well and find responsible homes for the pups. Many "free to good home" puppies are sold to labs, so be careful. After the pups are gone, have your little girl spayed (and castrate your stupid cousin!!!).

Depending on where you are there is an injection that can be given post-mating which will prevent pregnancy however it takes her right back to the beginning of her season so you need to watch her carefully again. It is normally given in two injections - first one day 3 post mating, 2nd day 5, but if you are unsure of when she was mated then a third inj can be given. The name escapes me right now but is certainly available in the UK so probably available in the US too.
This is an alternative if you can't afford surgery right now but it is still quite expensive as the amount given is by the dog's weight so a large dog needs a large expensive injection. However still a lot cheaper than surgery.
She can be spayed though while pregnant - the surgery is a little bit riskier though as the uterus is already thickening up and blood vessels have increased flow.
Edit - Mesalin is the drug I was trying to remember produced by Intervet.

Yes, and without complications if spayed as soon as she goes out of heat. Low cost and sometimes no cost spay and neuter referrals are probably best found out about through your local area animal control or shelter. Any clinic called a "spay and neuter" clinic is generally focused on that and will cost a lot less. If she is spayed ASAP, there is no pregnancy to worry about. Some orgs offer free spay and neuters for certain breeds or breed mixes, and some offer free spay and neuter for disabled or elderly. It depends on the resources where you live.

Ah the downfalls of dog ownership---money. That's something you need to be prepared for, and should have been clear to you when you decided to own a dog. Everything costs money... so it's time to start a savings account for your dogs so you can have money for things like this.
As for your question, YES you can have her spayed. The sooner the better, as some vets may not do it at a later date. Go to your humane society, most humane societies have a cheap and sometimes free spay and neuter events.
Better yet, make your cousin pay for all or half of it, since his/her negligence is costing you now.

IF she is pregnant you might not be able to tell right off the bat.
But in a few weeks you might by this :Increased appetite, she may also sleep more than usual, she'll get wider as the pups get bigger.
Her nipples will also be more pronounced (and possibly bright pink) She'll probably also start digging in her bed(or yours) or somewhere else in an attempt to make a den.
I live with a female beagle and a male pug, the beagle came out of her second heat a few days ago but it drove the pug crazy when she was going through it.
You should get your dog spayed after she has her pups, If she's pregnant.
I know some people people say you should have her spayed now so you don't have a litter to deal with but that's sounds almost like abortion.
You might want to take your dog to a vet, just to have her checked.

Yes - get her speyed now!!
I would hope that if you explained the situation to your vet they would be willing to let your pay off the surgery rather than let another litter be born into an overpopulated world. You MUST tell the vet that there is a possibility she is pregnant as is a chance of more bleeding etc in a pregnant b*itch.
Maybe your cousin could go halves with you as he is the one that let the dog out.

There's no real way to tell if they actually mated. You CAN get her spayed. Call your local shelter for inormation on low-cost clinics, and tell them WHY it is important to get her done quickly. They usually will know how to help. The good news is that if she just came into heat Monday, and if you caught it as soon as it started, she probably wasn't fertile yet...but that's too many ifs & maybes for me. I'd get her spayed and not have to worry, if it were me.

yes, you can take her down to the vet to have her spayed. she may or may not be pregnant, but you can still choose to have her spayed since you won't be wanting to deal with a litter of puppies running around!!
If she is pregnant, it would be best to spay her right away before the pups have time to form in her body.
You can have her tested while at the vets if you are worried.

Yes have her spayed even if she is pregnant. Finding homes for animals is very difficult. By spaying her you will stop her pregnancy and stop her from having unwanted babies. It might take a couple of weeks to notice if she's pregnant.
