I'm 14 and my mom said that when I turn 15 I can get a small tattoo. I love small tattoos, I think Huge tattoos are so tacky. I've always lived on the sea so I want something that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I've thought about it for about 2 months now, and I thought a old word compass rose on my forearm would be great. It would only be the size of a 50 cent piece so I could hide it if I wanted. what do you think?

PS: Where I live, IT IS LEGAL WITH PARENT CONSENT! So stop telling me it's not legal! ughhh!

I think it sounds like a cute idea, but 2 months is not enough time to truely think about it. Since you live by the sea you can get a small little seashell on your hip? The only reason I suggest that is because the forearm might be a little hard to cover up in the future (for a job, in a professional setting etc). Just remember though you'll have to live with it for the rest of your life so think before you ink!

I agree with most answerers here. I do not know of any reputable tattoo shop that will tattoo a 15 year old. And again, I agree with famousgurllll who said 2 months is not a long enough time to think about something that will be on you for the rest of your life. I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but it is the truth. Think about it for the next 3 years and get a tattoo when you are 18, when it's legal.

I think there's no decent tattoo artist in the Western world who would tattoo a 15-year-old, with consent or not. In most places, it's not even legal. You'd have to wait until you're at least 16 until any good artist would tattoo you.

And it's not because I think you're too young. I got a tattoo at 16 by a great artist, and I still love it. It's just that there really aren't any good artists who will work on someone under 16.

If you like it, that's what counts. I think it sounds good, but of course my opinion doesn't matter.

Finally, just a side comment. There are plenty of people who will judge you for having a tattoo. They may call you names, or think you're a deliquent. And surely, anyone who thinks something like that simply because of a tattoo is a close-minded idiot.

So, what makes it any better when you pass judgement on people with large tattoos?

It may not be your style, and that's fine. But do you really have any right to judge people? Is it really ok to call someone "tacky" just because their aesthetics are different from yours?

Just a thought.

Good luck with your tattoo.

I don't know where you live - in some states you have to be 18 before you can get a tattoo regardless of weather your parents are with you or not. In plenty of states you can get one at 15 - check with the tattoo shops in your area for age requirements.

I like the idea - you may want to rethink the area though. Forearm tattoos can be pretty hard to hide. (even small ones)

Best thing to do is print a picture of the design you want and hang it somewhere that you are going to see it several times a day (at least) if in 2 more months you still want it - then go for it.

HAHAHA

Where do you live? Even if your mother approves, you will not be able to get a tattoo until you are age 18 in the majority of the USA without proof of birth. At 15, do you seriously think that you know what you want to put on your body for the rest of your life?

If you think that large tattoos are tacky, then you aren't ready for a tattoo either -- small or large.

Grow up a bit before you take the ink plunge.

i think that at 14 anything i would have gotten tattooed would definitely be worlds away from anything that i would still want at this stage in my life.
but i am an owner of and fan of large tattoos so you think that i am a tacky person and couldn't care less what my opinions are about tattoos. (nice way to pass judgement.)
good luck with whatever you decide but i bet you'll end up regretting what you get by the time you're 30.

Something with meaning huh? Well how can a load of strangers give you ideas that are meaningful to you? Only you can decide what is meaningful, to some people their butterfly tattoos are deeply meaningful, it's just not your taste, that's all. Sorry but this is something you have to research and decide for yourself.

:)
What does "the size of a 50 cent piece" have to do with hiding it? Will you tape a coin over it when you don't want want someone to see it?

Also, I've heard horror stories about people will compass tattoos. They can't sleep at night unless the needles are aligned just right, and they wake up with cramps in their arms.
