don't know if this is what you were trying to remember

Isaiah 38:8:

8 "Behold, I will cause the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, to go back ten steps." So the sun's shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down."

In Old Testament times the Hebrews believed that the sun traveled around the earth, and the earth was stationary and the center of the universe. This concept was held by most of the world at the time, and did not change for thousands of years until Western astronomers proved through the use of telescopes that the earth revolves around the sun, and that the sun is the center of the solar system.

It is interesting to note that the Chaldean and Egyptian astronomers of Old Testament times knew that the earth was only one of the planets in a solar system that had at its center our sun. This is why they were able to develop a calendar of 364 days. They were well versed in all the movements of the earth, moon, and stars.

Isaiah 38:8 is found in the context of the time of King Hezekiah. At this time in history, among the Hebrews, very few individuals likely knew about the equinox and movements of the stars and planets.

Some have suggested that God "stopped" the sun. While it is true that the God of the Bible has the power to do anything with His Creation He desires, the sun does not revolve around the earth, the earth revolves around the sun. (Please bear with me in this elementary explanation). "Stopping" the sun has nothing to do with the shortness or the length of our days.

Others have suggested that this passage indicates that God stopped the rotation of the earth. This too, is possible with God, but unlikely, and unnecessary for God to move a shadow. Some have suggested that in history there is a "missing" day somewhere in our calendar, and that this verse accounts for the "missing-day." This too, is a spurious idea which has no evidence in fact.

The context reveals that Hezekiah was tempting God. Hezekiah was on his death bed, and prayed that he might continue to live. Hezekiah had been a good King (very rare) and God heard and answered his prayer by granting him an additional 15 years of life. Isaiah was sent to deliver the good news to King Hezekiah. The proof of this gift of God was the miracle which this verse records. How God worked this miracle is unknown, and really unimportant. God has the power to do anything He desires. He can make a "shadow" appear to move if He desires without moving the earth, sun, or stairway!

This was a miracle which was intended to send Hezekiah a message. I believe that is the point of the passage. Hezekiah's life was lengthened and he was healed (2 Kings 20:8-11).

The first occurrence is in the Book of Joshua, Chapter 10:12-15; the second is in Isaiah 38:7-8

I have never heard of the 40 minutes one, only the 23 and 20 one. (edit: Joshua 10:13) That is the one where a battle was being fought, and God held the sun in place, correct?

I'll try to edit this in a few minutes with the verses.

God Bless

If God stopped time, how would we know???

But He DID stop the sun, or rather, the earth's rotation during a war when Joshua needed more daylight. He even stopped the oceans from sloshing over the continents like they should have.
I think the incident when they had to hold Moses' arms up till the end of another fight might be the other one. Not positive. I's been awhile since I've gone through that section.

Joshua 10:12 Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, "O sun, stand still at Gibeon, And O moon in the valley of Aijalon."
Joshua 10:13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

Isaiah 38:8 "Behold, I will cause the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, to go back ten steps." So the sun's shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down.

Interesting that non-believers criticize what the Bible says? Could it be although their Spirit witnesses to them, the evil one has them in bonds already or are they mad a God? Either way they are fools. Either believe or not, but why do you need to cry out your disbelief? That's the evil one residing in your soul and he has it already in prison.
I 100% believe ALL in the Bible, it is The Living Word of God. The foundation is that there is an Almighty
God and He created all things. So He can also stop or turn back time, raise the dead and thru His Son provides everlasting Life.
The name of Jesus is Life, Power and remission of my sins, Praise the Lord!

The only time I can think of when there was no time, was before anything was created. After that I can't think of anything. I'm Jewish though so if it was in the New Testament I haven't a clue.

But stopping time is more than just pausing the sun in the air. I can see how this is what they meant though.
