I am looking to leave my current job of six months in Phoenix for another completely different job in LA. I want to move to the East Coast to be near family, but I can't do that with my current company (its only on the West Coast). With my new company, I can transfer to the East Coast after a year or so. I am also applying to jobs on the East Coast, some of which I might get. There's a chance that I will take the new job in LA, then get offered a job I want on the East Coast soon afterwards. What do I do? I have no children, but I hate to uproot my wife like that and send her head spinning. I also don't want to conduct career suicide.

Transferring jobs within a company is a tricky thing. I read here in Yahoo! about a guy who requested a transfer and then got fired. Be careful when doing this.

In the mean time, I would stick with only searching East Coast jobs. You are currently employed, so there is no hurry to get out of your current job. Skip your LA job search.
