I would prefer to get a really nice card and put a check in it but how much is acceptable? I can look her up in registrys but am at college having a hard time getting to a store plus, I would rather not have to bring something huge with me to the reception. I have not met this sister yet but have met the rest of his family so I am wondering what an accpetable gift of money would be or if I really should get a gift or a gift card...any suggestions?

No cash money. I probably would put a $ 50.-- gift certificate in the card, of course to a store that also is in her area.

Usually the cost of the dinner you will be eating is acceptable. Say, for instance, the cost of the reception is $50/person, then $50 would be fine.

What can you comfortably afford? I'd suggest $50 - $100 if you have that much to give. But, don't break your budget trying.

IMO you and your b/f should pitch in for a gift and card for his sister.
