You can wear white after Labor Day, just not summer white. That means that white linens and cottons are out but muted whites in other fabrics that are fall and/or winter appropriate are fine. White summer shoes and flip flops are out. But all this gets thrown out if you live in an area where the weather is still 100 degrees. So don't be so judgmental unless you have the facts and the basis of the area.

It is not a big deal anymore, white is a very neutral color. Just say hey nice shirt!
Or you could tell them you are just way too fashion conscious to be seen with them and tell them "good day"
