Was only 8 when that happened, but I ate in that same Mess Hall from Apr 74 - Jul 76. It belonged to the 30th Trans by then.

Was avionics assigned to the 30th Trans.and attached to the 245th Trans. In your day the 245th was at Finthin AAF in the Mainz area. Both came under the 85th Maint. Bn. at Pioneer. By 74 there was a KFC across from the main gate at Pioneer, a Dairy Queen in Aushafenburg (if you got around it was the town with the rabbit statue east of Hanua) and a McDonald's in Munchen.

I met a guy that showed us 2 pictures of himself. 1 in an SS uniform the other was a 8x10 BW of him sitting next to the President in the mess hall. He was a KP. Pretty sure they did not know about his past!!

The other units there were the 2/75th FA, there was an ADA unit with the 32nd ADA, 334th Attack Helicopter (Cobra), an Air Assault Unit (UH1's), 73rd MI (Mohawks) the few guys at the MARS station and the guys' guarding the nukes rotating in and out.
