Many modern christians say they shouldnt follow the old testament, that only the new applies.

MATTHEW 7:12. is the Golden rule, you know the one, do unto others as you would have them do unto you..that one.

prohibiting gay marriage- do you want us to prohibit straight marriage? With this NEW TESTAMENT way of thinking, you are asking homosexuals to prohibit your marriage, as you prohibit our marriage.

Condemn people to hell- Well, i guess you tell us our beliefs are wrong and we are going to hell, then you cant get after us for telling us you are wrong afterall.

killing people in the name of god- Well then, i guess we get to kill people in the belief of god then!

if the new testament still applies, and this is the main rule of the new testament...christians sure in heck arent following it very well. Any thoughts?

I'm one Christian who doesn't really like getting into Christian politics. I think it's silly.
Last I checked, I'm supposed to love my neighbor. I'm not here to judge. It's not my job to judge. I'm here to show love---that's hard enough of a task as is, so I dont think I want to take on more responsibilities to judge others.

But at the same time, I'm flawed, so I've said things that are unloving in my past. In any case, I've learned to recognize them and apologize as soon as possible.

In any case, you're right, many christians aren't following rules very well cuz we are all people and we are flawed. We need God's grace all the time. The self-righteous ones are just as needy of God's grace as everyone else.

At the same time, if I choose to focus on loving people, I'd hope to get the same respect to not be judged also by my belief. But I can understand if soemone wants to.

And for me, I learn from the Old Testament still. As for the New Testament, the key is the command to love God first with all my heart, then love my neighbor -- do that because Jesus died for me. That's the essence of the good news I thought.. that Jesus died for our sins. That's our job to spread THAT gospel, not who is condemned and who isn't. For me, the rules and all that stuff are for Christians to follow, not to blap it out to the world to condemn.

You can't pit the OT vs the NT because they both come from the same God and are totally compatable with one another. The laws of the OT still apply today, except for those that are fulfilled in the coming of Christ. Yes the golden rule would prohibit gay marriage because if the facts were all known homosexuality would eventually destroy both the moral values and the spiritual values of the society that my children and your children will live in. We all ready know what physical curse comes with that sin and it is doing untold damage and is out of control in the world today. Thanks to homosexuality.
Yes the golden rule condemns people to hell, because to have a perfect world (Heaven) evil cannmot be present and must be destroyed. Killing people to protect a society in the name of God is absolutely within the golden rule. Personally if I was seeking to rule the world and kill everyong that disagreed with me, I would be totally for someone killing me to stop my madness. BTW that is not the main rule of the NT. Jesus said the main rule was to love the Lord your God with all your heart.

Prohibiting gay marriage - A gay person has the same right to marry a person of the opposite gender as we do. Likewise, we can't marry someone of the same gender either. All's the same and all's fair, especially since it's impossible for "gay marriage" to even exist (marriage is a one man one woman union).

Condemning people to hell - We don't do that. God does. We just care enough to warn you about it.

Killing people in the name of God - Not a Christian practice at all, so I'm not sure why you would bring it up.

The only reason Christians use the "old" testament is for legitimacy. If the OT is not true, then the NT can't possibly be true.

As a Christian Preacher I first must say that you can not throw out the Old Testament.
With that being said I agree with your assesment concerning a lot of Christians to-day.
But then the Church isn't always teaching the Word of God nearly as much as money.

when Christians say not to listen to the Old testament what they mean is you dont have to make animal sacrifices, you dont have to go through a priest to get to God. the old Laws like that. the laws on sexuality is for our own good. that doesnt mean to discredit the 10 commandments or to not use the old testment at all. we still use the Old testament all the time. we just dont have to follow all of the old tradtions.

I guess if I believed in their God I would say that nearly all have fallen for Satan's "counterfeit Christianity".
But I am not so to Hell with it all.

1) I dont want to ban gay marriage
2) I don't condemn people to hell
3) I've never killed anyone in the name of God.

So it looks like I am in accordance with the New Testament, huh. Are you?

Just like with most books and movies the sequel is never that good. Home alone II, Rockey II, Deathwish II, none of them were as good as the first.
