For anyone who is going to read this and has been in witchcraft i am sure that you will answer magick works because of the power of the mind. And i would agree. However, This to me would indicate that thoughts themselves contain some degree but i was curious as to prespectives on thoughts themselves contain power. Or for anyone who disagrees with my take but believes in witchcraft/ magick why do you feel it works

I meant to say this to me would incidate thoughts contain some degree of power themselves. I just realized i left out the word power in the setence. I am sure most of you figured out what i meant, but i just thought i'd throw this tidbit in since it is the only way i can edit the post.

Most Pagans and Heathens know that the old ways work because magick is the art of causing coincidence to happen. It isn't so much a question of power so much as it is the fact that there are forces in the universe that can be relied upon. Xtians have other words for it, we do not necessarily discuss ours. I think the Xtian Bible calls it casting your stones before swine.

gee, well this isn't a simple answer but I'll try to compact without rambling too much...... aint gonna be easy though, this is one of those Mystical "Gnowing" things.......

All matter is pure energy condensed. Nothing is solid. All energy effects all else. Thoughts are another form of energy. Literal electrical pulses.
We are a part of the universe more so than the average Cowan comprehends, all of us. (Every cell in your body acts indepently, so to speak, to make up the whole. As above, so below.)
Your body doesnt end at your skin, it ends as far as you can see. Life is the same as a dream and you can manipulate your own dreams as long as you realise you are dreaming. Bit like the Matrix. :-)
We are also all of one mind, one soul, the same as all characters in your dreams are you. This ONE soul is the life spark of all creation, its more commonly called Divinity. We are God/dess.
Become self aware, you are the only person that you can prove exists. As far as you know, and its true.
NIN said: "What if all the worlds inside of your head, just creations of your own. The devils and the gods, all the living and the dead and you really are alone?"
There is a terrifying truth.
The entire of creation is no more real than an intense dream, and its you thats dreaming it. Enjoy it and change what you dont like, its called Magic.
Thoughts DO create reality, and I think thats about the best I can put it into words without ranting a novels worth.

I should make comment on "Consensus Reality".
There is a book called "the Hundreth Monkey". It give the theory that if enough people (or monkeys hehe) believe in something, it becomes reality. Our world is largely based on this. Communication and the media play a HUGE part in manipulating our perception of reality. If enough people believe in "terrorism", for example, then it becomes part of our existance, and the people who we allow to run the planet know this.
Concensus Reality is a powerful force and this gives the need for thoughts to be pumped up and given enough strength to make a difference through ritual and "magic".

i say it works because each of us is connected to cosmic energy, it flows through us and connects us to every thing there is. when i cast a spell, what i'm doing is borrowing some of the macrocosmic energy to request something at a microcosmic level. affecting the microcosm also affects the macrocosm. we are all connected by a field of energy and that energy can be manipulated; by affecting the spirit we are able to project our needs into physical reality. the best spells are the ones that make use of physical, emotional, and spiritual energies all at the same time. If you really really mean it you'll get much better results.

i DO believe thoughts and words have power especially if there's a strong willed person behind it. Like the mind-over-matter thing....
i can't tell you why it works or anything like that. i honestly don't know and i might not ever know.
all i know is that magick seems to be everywhere, in nature and in prayer and in all of us if we have the will to grab hold of it.

I don't know, since i was small i just love having powers and shows like "Charmed", then i stumbled onto Folk magick, then i figured out i was an Evil sorcerer in my past life, then magick was like EASY. i just believe in me, i guess.
