My daughter is 17 mths old and is not walking on her own yet or at least not much, she has walked a few times but then goes back to walking on her knees ( which is funny and very fast), she loves walking but will only do it if she can hold my hand.(I know we want our children to hold our hand for safety) but she walks with her left foot out all the time and hits her head with her hand sometimes as if she is trying to balance herself or something. Should I take her to see her health vistor, she has that PLAGIOCEPHALY thing were her head is flat on one side although she has never been diagnosed with this I know it is a mild form of it, I just wondered if this would interfeer with her walking and balancing skills as it is her left side also. Please no wise cracks just genuine answers please, and thanks for reading my question.

I think it would be a good idea to take her to the doctor just so they could check her out. I don't think it is really something to worry about. Babies progress at their own rate, some walk sooner than others. It sounds though like she might have some balance issues or maybe she is just a cautious child and is not ready to walk on her own yet. You say she loves to walk when you hold her hand so I would just continue to do that with her as much as possible. This will help her gain more confidence in her balance. I hope my answer helps. Good Luck and God Bless!

Well, you already know that children all develop at different rates. Children can walk from 9-18 months. But you are the mom and you know best. If you feel like something is wrong, then take her in to the doctor. She may just need some physical therapy. I doubt that a flat spot on her head would do anything. My daughter had a mild one and she is fine. Try not to worry. It sounds like she is ok. We have tough jobs! Moms!

She is just learning how to balance and this is where her feet seem to feel comfortable. Working at a daycare majority of the kids I work with first start out learning like that. One parent commented that her pediatric suggested swimming. kicking her feet in the water to strengthen them which will help later on with walking and running. She will be fine, but if any swelling or redness occurs then that is serious and you need to get her checked out. I wouldn't worry to much about it, but if you are concerned always feel free to contact your doctor for additional advice. Good luck to you! Those are precious years so don't waste them!!!

no, she should not, but thats not to say there is a real problem.

Mild conditions that can cause out-toeing include femoral retroversion/torsion ( often tight lateral hamstring, hip ligament), External tibial position (ligamentous) and sttle with little intervention.

Severe cases of out-toeing include, Missed dislocated hip, slipped femoral head, excessive tibial torsion, and should be checked out.

HVs know nowt about these conditions, take her to a paediatrician.

It definitely sounds like you should take her in to a pediatrician. She is a little old to still be having trouble walking. However, it could be nothing serious and easily remedied.

My ped. advised me to put my sons shoes on the wrong feet. This will help turn her foot in and does not hurt the child. My son use to trip over his foot because it turned in when he was a toddler. This advise corrected the problem and his foot straightened without cast or surgury. It really works. Try it.

Speak to your HV or GP now. Although they may simply reassure you, you should always go with that "Mother's Gut Feeling" it is a bit like "Nurse's Gut Feeling".
