I don't care about thumbs down. some people just do it because they don't like your answers. Your answer might be logical to you, but for some, it might not tickle their pickle.
I know w hat you are saying though. I see some people giving good advice and they get thumbs down.

People give thumbs-down for a lot of reasons. It's surprisingly easy to accidently do it when scrolling down with a click-wheel mouse, or by going to hit the thumbs up and missing. The majority of them are purposeful, but i'm sure this accounts for the odd few. Some people follow people they don't like (usually because they've posted something the other person didn't agree with) and give all their answers a thumbs-down. Some are given by lame trolls with nothing better to do except randomly clicking that little button on every answer they come accross. Alot (hopefully) are given because people genuinely disagree or agree with that particular answer - that's how I use them. Thumbs-down to one's that are offensive or just plain wrong advice (for a simple example, if a person offers advice on how to remove a stain by telling them to use something that will make it worse) and thumbs up to answers I strongly agree with. If it's an average but not harmful answer I will just leave it as it is and not clicky anything.
It bothers me sometimes if I get a lot of thumbs-down for an answer that I think was particularly good, but people have different view-points and i'm not perfect, I do get things wrong! Let them do as they please - I will try to work out where I went wrong if the votes are very harshly against me, but I don't let it wind me up too much.

When I get thumbs up, I appreciate it. I know that someone took the time to read my answer, was touched by it or agreed with it, or enjoyed my sense of humor.
If I get thumbs down because I made an error in something I said, I take it as constructive critisism. If I have made a controversial statement, I take the thumbs down as a compliment, knowing I hit someone sore spot and said something they didn't want to hear. If I get thumbs down for no reason, I pity they person who gave them...they must have a rather empty and sad life if their hobby is to thumbs down people at will.

Some people think thumbs down is an insult so they give it to anyone they disagree with. It does not effect me at all, however I can tell when my answer upsets someone due to the thumbs down.
As I mention every time I answer a question about the thumbs, I give thumbs up to some answers I disagree with but they are articulate and dead on as far as the question and I give thumbs down to some I really agree with but they were not clear or were mistaken on some points.
I do not give thumbs up simply because I agree nor do I give thumbs down to those I disagree with. It all depends on the question and if they gave good articulate answers.

The paradox of thumbs up/down is the fact that the person answering the question may have a different viewpoint than the person giving them thumbs up. This can be a problem if the answer to the question is actually slightly good.

At first it bothered me, especially when I get a thumbs down about something I have studied very carefully and know my answer is the correct answer. But now it doesn't bother me at all. I understand that not everyone on here is as educated as others, and people are in titled to their own opinion.
But sometimes I do wonder why people give certain answers thumbs down, especially when maybe someone else has given a similar answer.
As far as people going out of their way to get thumbs down I think they crave cyber attention!

It doesn't bother me. The thumbs down can be anything from a popularity thing to someone that just doesn't like anyone else's opinion, even though it is a valid point.

I'd like it if the identity of the thumber was given, or even better if there was a way they could say why they gave a thumb (up or down). Just having the up or down information is virtually meaningless.
I've seen some cases where it appears one person gives everyone a thumbs down. Maybe they think their answer is the only valid answer. (Indeed, one person even admitted as much in an email when my wife pulled him up about it).

Yes, i agree, I think that people with very valid points get thumbed down. Maybe it is because people have such long messages, and they think its too bothersome to read. I had written a res-ponce, about zodiacs, and I had written a link, and examples. It was slightly long, but not very long. When I looked back on it, mine and another slightly the same, but with different links and different examples had been thumbed down. Some that were very vulgar, or short had been thumbed up. I'm not sure, but this confuses me.

Only when I get best answer, for then I get another point for every thumbs up.
Otherwise, no.
I have said I was blessed and happy and gotten thumbs down because of it.
If people ever disagee with you, they often give you a thumbs down, even though your point may be valid.
