Hi All,
I was at 99mph on a 65mph limit on I-70 West (~50 miles west from liberty state park). Police caught me and gave a speeding ticket and also a 'Reckless driving' ticket.
Want to know how much would be the fine for these tickets. When i contacted the court, they said they can not answer until next week!
Can anyone tell me how much will be the fine in this case? Also i want to know what needs to be done in case of 'reckless driving' ticket. Court representative said it needs compulsary court appearance. However, Police did not tick the 'court appearance required' check box.
As i live in cincinnati, how do i work out this with NJ court? Is there a way i can pay fine for both speeding and 'reckless driving' tickets and avoid court appearance etc??
Thank you for your time and help.

DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY TO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU SPEAK TO A LAWYER. You can't plead guilty to the reckless driving ticket or you'll lose your license, probably go to jail, and have terrible insurance rates for life. You may be able to cut a deal with the NJ courts to plead guilty to the speeding in exchange for the reckless being dropped. Unless you've already pled guilty to the speeding. In which case you're boned, because reckless driving is not a charge that you can simply pay a fine and have disappear.

The question you should really be asking: Anybody know any good lawyers in New Jersey?

Don't worry about all these people telling you you deserve what you get; chances are pretty good that they've sped too. Except Patty, who is apparently more concerned with giving you a lecture than actually sharing information that might be helpful to you in this situation.

You shouldn't have your whole future ruined by one stupid mistake, which is what this was, so throw the cruise control on at 65 when you go back to New Jersey to fight this.

Hi Karen,

Be very thankful you are only concerned about paying fines and possibly going back to NJ for a court appearance.

Do you realize at the speed you were going, you were an accident waiting to happen? And if you had wrecked, you would have been seriously injured, but most likely killed.

Police officers do not like to work fatality accidents and like even less delivering death notifications to family members.

Please slow down, set your cruise if you have it on your car...arrive alive!

Hate to say it, but I hope you get some time out of this.

Next time, do your reckless driving in your own state. It'll be more convenient both for court appearances and jail stays.

Fine is $2500 and you will have to serve 30 days in jail for the reckless charge.

Yeah, I'd have to say 99 in a 65 zone is pretty reckless. I hope you learned something.

You did something pretty stupid and I know you're anxious, but you're going to have to wait until you receive the thing in the mail that has the fine/bail amount and see if you can just pay it to close the case.

They are going to yank your license, and good for them.

Yeah, "thumbsdown" me--I live in NJ, trust me it is insane to drive like that here.
