Not quite, because most often religions came up in response to oppressive governments and such. Judaism - the Jews suffered slavery under the Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians. Islam, Muhammad was rejected by the other Arabs. Christ, the Christians were persecuted by the Jewish hierarchs and the Roman government. Anglicanism, founded because the Catholic Church was too strict. Puritans and Pilgrims, separated from the non-Biblical foundations of Anglicanism. So it would be better not to say that, "Religion was created as a form of control" but instead "Religion is a form of liberation"
The Muslims, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, all of them have some point they want to reach to be free. Redemption from sin, righteousness, enlightenment, awakening. Liberation. Liberation from something that binds us. Hence it is the opposite of control.
Edit: in other words, religion is rebellion. Rebellion against our nature, our selfish desires, our immorality, our decadency.

False religion would be as the bible says in Revelation 17:17 a kingdom over the kings of the earth. So false religion is in bed with the governments that is why she is called the religous harlot. They use her as much as she uses them for power and fame and money. But was the true religion ever involved with the world governments? Only to be killed by them. If Jesus came to the earth today preaching as he did then he would be killed again. Probably by well meaning Christians.

One could make a reasonable case, but it's really a matter of perspective and also knowledge of mass psychology. Religion has the potential to provide self-motivated reasons for avoiding antisocial conduct,so a religious society is often in less need of external controls (i.e. police) than a non-religious society. The Soviet Union and Communist China both required/require extensive external controls.

Yes. Common results in research of the origins of groups into villages into cities demonstrates that, at a population of 200 or more, some type of law is required.
It has also been demonstrated that religion was a way to pass along the notion of return altruism - a kind of "you scratch my back and Ill scratch yours." Problem was, how did you know if your neighbor was trustworthy enough that he would repay you? This is where gossip came in - gossip comes from the word god and sib - to speak about those in our close family. It has come to mean speaking of anyone... Through Gossip, we learned who we could trust and who we couldnt.

Religion is a way for people to try to reach God, but not the way for God to reach people. The first indication of religion started with Cain, when he worshiped God the way he thought was correct. If all of us were in unity with our believes, then the concept of religion should not exist...just us and God, that's all! Since God is not in control of religion, religion is then free to control us.

Yes! that is the fall of man! The Popes of the middle ages were all about control and money. Not spirituality. but if you look farther back to the apostles you see it is nothing about control. the government wanted control so they locked paul up in Jail to keep him from spreading the Good news. Pual constantly told Christians not to look to him but to Christ. he did not want any of the Glory.

The Bible is an ancient history book, and the most documented of all history books, and it doesnot teach such a thng at all. In fact in the Bible did not and does not seek to con trol anyone. It simply separates itself unto its own belief and allows others to choose as they wish. No one is ever forced to be a christian.
