And they have to belittle other peoples point of view before they can express their own? Like that will make thiers look better? That is a kids game.
Ever hear of Communications Skills?

Jack is correct in his assessment. He left out that almost no proper sentences EVER start with the words "And, Like, & Ever". And (yes, I'm using an improper sentence, since this ain't the SATs), unless it is a class at the university "Communication Skills" should not be capitalized.

This is a conclusion you have come to based upon what exactly? Anyone calling themselves an 'intellectual' is immediately suspect and rarely what they believe themselves to be. Some people are in possession of a sh*tload of knowledge but have a socially inept way of showing that off. Some are so insecure that they come across in an arrogant fashion; it is often not a real confidence they exude. Some are truly lovely people. Same as in any other group.

Then there are those of us, like myself, who just sit back, look good and eat cookies. We take great pride in the fact that there is always some fun to be had.

Jack B is right about you're spelling. (lol) Real intellectuals might simply appreciate that you catch more flies with honey.

Also, informed debate requires a person to consider the aspects of argument prior to forming an opinion. Often this process is expressed to demonstrate reasoning. Sometimes this means that another expert's argument has to fall away. Some people are far more graceful at achieving that than others. Communications skills are only an aspect of intelligence. You can have pretty good communications skills without outstanding intelligence. Have a look at some of your politicians. Dumb as dog biscuits.

Anyway.. your notion that "it's a kid's game" is very perceptive, I think. My daughter is 15 and always argues with us. Doesn't seem to matter what we say, from her perspective it is wrong. I realise that she is just learning to argue her point of view ~ a skill that will be very valuable in future... so I let it go without beating the crap out of her for it. That restraint is more difficult to achieve than answering your question~!

OMG! You should be very proud to get such an honored invite to 2 Ivy League colleges!!!!!!!! I never went to any college at all, and I'm in my 50s! You are an empowered female with a lot of good things coming your way! College is not high school. The people there are much more mature. School is out very soon and you only have a little time to get your paperwork in order. If there are those who shun you for being intelligent and smart, it has to be because they are jealous, and maybe a slight bit ignorant. Making a few mistakes in class makes you a normal person in every way. Don't ever hold back on your intelligence as it is in high demand in many fields. Learning new languages is very hard. Have you studied the language of the Japanese? Over three thousand characters just for emotions and phrases in the Kanji language! Can you imagine having to learn all the strokes involved in each character? There are so many worldly positions that require translators and the understanding of cultures. It is a very lucrative field. Even Einstein was shunned before MC2, and was seen as a tad bit eccentric, and the others tried to shoot him down too, but, look where it got him! He was smart without the schooling. If you continue your good studies, the college of your choice will offer you greater opportunities. Picking on the smart ones in my day was the same as now. It is a common stereotyping that the doctors, mathematicians, lawyers, nuclear medicine scientists, rocket scientists and computer nerds all had to go through too. You should not worry about what a bunch of sour pusses say. They are not the kind of people who deserve to be your friends. Stick with your real friends and closest comrades. The only important thing is how you feel about yourself. Do not let a few envious farts bring you down, as it will interfere with your getting further ahead. You have a lot of time to make new friends at your new school. Your teachers now should be thinking about what a good job they did teaching you well and not besmirching you. They may think there is nothing else to have to imprint in your mind. Just be who you are and relish in the fact that you have made it to the top. How wonderful! I wish you good luck and choose as many courses as you can to diversify your fields. You are going somewhere girl! Stand proud!!!!!! :D

I do not battle over points of view.... or should I say, I try, not to ?? Intelligent is in the *mind* of the speaker or thinker.... everyone *thinks* or *speaks* as if they know more than the one sitting beside, standing in front of them.... human nature..... I may know more on a certain subject than , say, 3/4 of the people in the same room with me, but if there are ONLY 4 people ?? does that mean my IQ went up 20 points ?? No.....It just means I have the knowledge of a certain subject, and they have not, but they might the next time we are in the same room...... and they probably will, if I speak of the subject, then those people will know the same as me...... making them as intelligent of the subject as I am........ go in peace..... God bless

Self-proclaimed intellectuals are put off by genuine intelligence because it shows them up for what they are; snobby hypocrites with more hubris than brains.
My favorite quote:

I agree...Intelligence without character,is lame and unimpressive..An intelligent person, who is humble, will always have my ear..reguardless of his or her beliefs.
