You should cook a roast at 350 degrees 28-30 minutes a pound . So actually that is about right but use a meat thermometer, it should read about 170 degrees when done.

I am Chef
Rub that meat with olive oil massage in garlic sea salt cracked pepper oregano thyme and a touch of dijon. Roast on a mirepoix.Start the oven at 450 for 15 mins then bake for 1 hr @ 350
If you are not sure. I say only once stick a paring knife in the middle
Once you know your oven and weight of roast you should never pierce your meat and never let the juices run.
Touch it to your inner wrist it should hurt just a little if the paring knife is to hot to touch it is over cooked.
Let the roast rest for 10 to 14 mins while you deglaze the pan with red wine and make the demi-glaze

It will probably be rare, if you like that way. I'd suggest at least an hour and a half to two hours if you like it well done. It's always well done in a crock pot, and comes out real tender. I add potatos and carrots, a little onion and garlic and salt and pepper. If you're cooking it in the oven, cover it so it doesn't get dried out.

Work on 30 minutes per lb so you are looking at 1+1/4 hours plus a little extra.

No you need to give it at least three hours , then test it to see if it is the way you want it, you don't want to over cook.

i don't think that's long enough for that size roast. i'd say closer to two hours. do you have a meat thermometer you can use to check the internal temp.?

To make sure it is done all the way I would give it maybe two or even three hours.
