Wow, are you in my Religious Anthro. 320 Class? Because that assignment was due today! LOL!
To me I feel that religion is a common belief system of the sacred supernatural that includes a lot of symbols. In which the symbols holds the key to the true idea of those beliefs.
(Please don't take my answer! if you're in my class!)

Religion is the organized incorporation of philosophy with ritual and dogma, designed to answer questions and offer a workable framework for things of a "spiritual" nature (who am I, why is the world the way it is, what do I do about it). The use of ceremony is mostly what distinguishes religion from mere philosophy. And the nature of its purpose sets it apart from lodges (which offer ceremony and moral codes, but nothing "spiritual", for lack of a better term).

Notice that this definition doesn't suppose any details of the actual tenets. I see people who always assume religion has to include deity, or philanthropy, or a community, etc. but you can always find counter-examples to these.

Of course, anybody who has ever read an answer of yours on ANY question, knows where you stand! I'm glad you at least don't use the really, really long response you used to post everywhere.

An organized philosophical belief in the existence of the supernatural among a group of people, often centered around a deity, a few individuals, or texts considered sacred. There is no evidence for the supernatural, so all religions are based on faith.

In Latin, "religio" refers to a ribbon that is tied around a sheaf of grain to bind it for harvest. By extension, it is the meaning one uses to tie one's life together and keep it all pointing in the same direction. So whatever mythos you use to filter your experience and give significance to your life is your "religion". It can be supernatural and theistic or empirical and humanistic.
