If one is able to hit draw, fade or straight to the middle of the fairway on demand to a distance of 250 yards then I would consider it formidable.
Distance is not that important but being able to hit to his/her target is by itself impressive.

Golfing only once a week, I'd say 300 yards.
The thing I see the most with 'weekend' golfers is guys who swing the club like a baseball bat as fast as they possibly can.
Although they play terrible, the 1/100 chance that they make solid contact will set the 'bar' for the rest of the day between all four men.
This will result in a 300+ yard drive. Of course, they were lining up 85 yards left, and hit a 'corkscrew' slice that found the right deep rough after bouncing on the fairway 11 times.

I'd say an "impressive" drive would be one that travels about 280-300. I would have to call the 240-270 range "very nice". I'd call the 200-230 range "good". Anything over 300 would be "yeah, sure you did" or "must have hit a yardage plate"

hmmm id say about 250 - 280 in the fairway but then again if you were playing more than once a week then 280 - 300 with a nice draw

250 or more yards right down the middle of the fairway would do it for me!
I've hit some fairly long drives, but if they end up in the rough, I've got to waste a stroke by hacking it out of the long grass.

A Drive of about 275 yards is impressive for the average player regardless if your buddy thinks he can hit it 320!

Right down the middle of the fairway about 230-260 yards works for me. I would gladly give up distance for accuracy

no. I consider them snobs haha No but really how hard is it to swing a bat and drive around in a golf cart?? ( while someone else lugs around your clubs too may I add?? ) I mean sure its more athletic than lets say being a chess player, but if you cant work up a sweat doing it, I dont think its athletic.. My kids love minigolf, either on wii ( well on wii they play 'real' golf, with like mario haha) or on real life, we go few times a year, they keep asking to go play real golf but I dont have golf kinda money, plus I dont think they would let a 5 and 8 y old in playing actual golf in the courses around here, Ive never seen kids there..

I'm 29 years old been playing golf for 12 years but not everyday. I play about 3 times a month. My longest drive was in Wyoming--high altitude--and it went 364. I ended up winning the long driving contest for that hole. I usually hit it about 290 but not always straight. I love it when I crush it and my friends tell me--you fu**** asshole. When you green it on par 4's is most impressive.
