I just had a filling put in 5 days ago and the tooth is hurting whenever I chew on it. I have only tried really soft food like noodles and bread and I waited to chew on it for 2 days and it still hurts. It was a really deep feeling, the filling is a white one and its on a molar tooth. Could it just still be sensitive from having all the work done on it? He told me I would probably need a crown within a year, so could the tooth be too fragile to eat on? I am going to call my dentist tomorrow if this is still going on.

it is still sensitive. it took me a good month before i could chew on that side of my mouth again. just give it time.

EDIT: just to inform the poster below me. it sounds like u had a surface cavity. surface ones dont go into the tooth very much and it doesnt hit the nerve at all or go to a point where it could. the asker stated that theirs was a deep cavity. deep ones hurt a lot. they r closer to the nerve and in some cases can actually be touching it. just thought i would inform u of that

My brother had a similar problem. Our dentist said that white fillings are usually a lot more sensetive than the silver ones and often can hurt for a while. They said that if it bothered him longer than a month that he should go back in and they would see if something was wrong. I dont remember what happenned after that because it was last year but everything was ok.

It could be that you will need to have a root canal done- the pain your having is because of perhaps some bacteria entered the tooth's root canal....to save the tooth, a crown would be put on.
