Okay, so I'm 11. Last night I left my cell phone in my jacket's pocket, when I went to school this morning with my jacket on, I noticed there while I was on my bus, I just turned it off and decided I would keep in my pocket and leave my jacket in my locker until the end of the day. When I took my jacket out later, my cell phone must have fallen out while I was walking..... should I tell my mom exactly what happened? Or just wait until she asked about it and say that I can't find it anywhere? Because last time when it was actually her, she got SOOOO mad and yelled at me alot.... then i found it in my room where SHE left it and then she pretended that nothing happened.... so what should I do?

First call the cell phone company NOW and tell them you have misplaced your phone. that way you won't be charged for calls made on it. Then go to school tomorrow and see if anyone has turned it in. It is possible to dismantle the use of the phone through the phone company so no one else could ever activate it for use. Your mom might be paying for insurance and if she is the new phone won't cost her anything. Good luck!

Although she may be mad now; your mother would definitely be more upset if the cell phone bill and there were a lot of extra charges on it if someone has taken the phone.

If you are very hesitant to tell her, take one extra day to completely retrace your steps. Ask anyone at any stops along the way if they might have found it or if a cell phone might have been turned in. Ask at your school, and if the bus stops at any other schools, ask if they can check with those schools, as well.

Your mother can call to discontinue service to the phone, so that no one will be able to use it, and there won't be a lot of extra charges by someone else on the phone. I've never really heard of it, but they might be able to turn it on remotely (if it is still charged) so that you could call the phone and see if someone might answer who has located it (or it may be somewhere nearer than you think, and then you could hear it ringing).

But the best advice is to just let an adult know as soon as possible, so they can best take care of the situation.

Okay I am not going to tell you to lie to your parents. However, what I would do is call your phone. See if somebody answers it. Somebody may have picked it up for you. Check the lost and found and look in all the places that it might be. If you find it, problem solved. Nobody needs to know :D

But if you don't find it, tell your mom the truth. She might get mad, but accidents do happen. And take it as a lesson to be careful the next time.

Honesty is always the best policy. Yes, go tell your mother exactly what happened. Explain in the fewest words possible, and don't make any excuses. Tell her sincerely that you are very sorry.

Can you call your cell phone and see if someone answers -- maybe someone picked it up? Would it have been turned in to the bus company or the school office? Tell your mom that you are going to make a serious effort to find it. Good luck!

Try a little investigation first. My husband did the funniest thing. He lost his cell phone in a large store, but had an idea that the clerk had found it and kept it, instead of putting it in lost and found. So, he asked me to borrow my phone. He called his phone. He waited as it rang, and rang, and rang. He asked the lady to get her phone and he would wait. (He's a big guy.) She said, no, and he called again. When she didn't answer AGAIN, he said 'Lady, give me my D**N phone'. And she was so embarassed. She begged him not to report her to management. He didn't. We just left, and poor lady felt so bad.

Therefore, I recommend that you try the same tactic. Chances are that whomever has your phone is trying to use it. Ask someone on the bus to use their phone. Ask someone in school to use their phone. Have your friends dial the number in the cafeteria. Text message the person to meet you someplace secretly, they will not suspect you as the owner of the phone. They were dumb enough to steal a cell phone for goodness' sake! Try that for a day at least. Give it a little due diligence before just throwing in the towel.

Then when you tell your mom, you can tell her how hard you tried to get it back.

Hope you get your phone back, and your mom is appeased.

Retrace your steps! Call the bus garage, the school's lost and found... and double check to make sure that you didn't just misplace it or leave it right in front of your nose. If it is in fact lost, then for privacy and security issues, you have to get ahold of your cell phone provider so that they can disconnect the line until you find it.

Don't be afraid of telling your mom. If she gets mad, she gets mad. She won't stay angry with you forever, and she'll be happier that you told her instead of hiding it from her. You're 11, so I assume she paid for it and pays your cell phone bill... she's going to be much angrier if you just keep it from her for weeks and she finds out on her own and ends up paying a $300 bill that YOU didn't rack up.

Good luck!!

definately tell her the truth. it will be a LOT worse if you wait. tell her what happened, maybe she will help you find it. i know you said you turned it off, but if someone found it they turned it back on, so try calling it a few times. if no one answers it, then go look where you walked and see if its there somewhere. i hope you find your phone. good luck! TRUST ME AND TELL YOUR MOM! im older then you and are more experienced with the tell her or dont tell her stuff. always tell her, it will help you in the long run, or else they will just find out later anyway, and then it will get really ugly. hope this helps.

I'm 11 too and the same thing happened to me once. Just tell her but make sure that the first whole part of the day you act very sweet to her and like be in a good mood so that your Mom might be in a good mood so it won't be as bad when you tell her. Also tell her that your reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly sorry.

If your mom was stupid enough to give a cell phone to an 11 year old then should shouldn't get upset when that 11 year old loses it.
