"Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs"
Directions
1. Place eggs in a large saucepan. Cover them with cool water by 1 inch. Slowly bring water to a boil over medium heat; when the water has reached a boil, cover and remove from heat. Let sit 12 minutes.
2. Transfer eggs to a colander; place under cool running water to stop the cooking. Eggs can be peeled and served immediately. Remaining eggs, with shells on, may be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
This is the best way to make hard boiled eggs. Works every time!!

Emmerse raw eggs in pan of cold water; place pan on burner and let come to a boil; shut off burner and cover pot for 20 minutes. You do this so the eggs cook without cracking the shell. After 20 minutes, let cool water run into pot of hot water over the eggs until the water in the pan with the eggs is cold. I then peel the eggs right away because they are easier to do at that point and store in the frig covered tightly until I'm ready to use.
I have even used a larger pot if boiling more eggs than a sauce pan will hold and put a layer of eggs, a clean cloth like a clean dishrag and another layer of eggs. Follow the same directions above.

According to Martha Stewart and some others, the best way to cook them is to start them in a pan of cold water, bring it to a boil, turn it off and let the eggs sit for 12 mins. Then remove and run under cold or icy water. No, they don't float.

Place eggs in pan cover with cold water. Bring water to boil.....as soon as water starts to boil turn off heat...if using electric heat remove pot from burner. Let set 15 minutes. pour off hot water....bounce eggs in pot to crack shell and then cover with cold water. Make sure all eggs are cracked. This makes them easier to shell. When water warms again ..pour off water and cover with cold water again. This stops the cooking.
Now hold one cooled egg under running cold water and slip shell off. The older the egg the easier it is to remove the shell.
If you over cook an egg the yolk turns green on the outside and is yucky looking. If this happens cut down on the time the eggs sets in hot water by a minute or longer.

No, the eggs will not float or anything when they are done.......just boil them about 12 minutes from the time the water reaches a rolling boil. If you are doing several at a time (say a dozen), then let them boil for 15 minutes. My grandma taught me this and it works every time.
BTW -- to help remove the shell easier after they are boiled, put about a teaspoon of salt into the water before you start the boiling process.

How To Make Hard-Boiled Eggs
Place eggs in single layer in saucepan.
Cover with at least one inch of cold water over tops of shells.
Cover pot with lid and bring to a boil over medium heat.
As soon as the water comes to a full boil, remove from heat and let stand.
Large soft-cooked eggs: let stand in hot water 1 to 4 minutes, depending on your tastes.
Large hard-cooked eggs: let stand in hot water 15 to 17 minutes.
When cooked to desired level, drain off hot water.
Immediately cover with cold water and add a few ice cubes.
Soft-cooked eggs: let stand in cold water until cool enough to handle. Serve.
Hard-cooked eggs: let stand in cold water until completely cooled. Use as needed.
Tips:
Never boil eggs. It makes them rubbery.
Use older eggs. Fresh ones won't peel properly.
To keep eggs from cracking while cooking (before placing in water), pierce large end with a needle, which will also make them easier to peel.

normally they will you will see one or two of them get a small crack when they are done. The best time to cook eggs is for 10 minutes.
