I went to a "Christmas" time but, not themed event why not use evergreens strung with white lights and silver snowflake ornaments? It's not quite Christmas but, it still uses the white and silver theme.. Or maybe mini tabletop christmas trees with white lights and mini silver snowflakes ornaments... If you make them yourself you can give them as a "gift" to the person with the ticket or card under their chair... You could have them on the tables with a dusting of "snow" on the tables.. Or use floating candles in silver dishes with white/burgundy candles..

You have chosen some wonderful colors. Depending upon what type of "theme" you decide upon; there are some remarkable arrangements, place settings and overall decorative aspects that can be incorporated into a December wedding. Stop by your local craft store. Pick up a copy of any floral design magazine(utiilzed by fellow designers, such as myself). As for certain Christmas touches; Possibly give out an assortment of silver ornaments as a "thank you" to our guests. Include ribbons scattered on the tables, floating silver candles and center pieces including flowers which are IN SEASON(lessens the cost). Also, maybe a sheer table cloth placed over a merlot or white cloth? Remember, when purchasing small centerpieces; do not have them over power the table itself(i.e.- being able to see a fellow guest is key). Therefore, the height of the arrangement should be no taller than your elbow placed upon the table, extended to the tip of the longest finger on your hand. There are taller arrangements. Why? So that the guests are able to converse without an arrangement blocking their view from across the table. Utilize a variety of colors, rather than white on white or Merlot on "merlot". Pick up a color wheel in order to incorporate other colors in your palate( such as the base color of your Merlot gowns). Certain aspects also depend upon the time of the day. Good Luck. May you both share many years of happiness.

I went to a wedding in December and they had awesome table decorations, the one that stuck out the most were the favors. They were those clear glass ornaments (they're sphere shaped) and then they added burgundy paint along with a little gold (switch to the colors of your wedding obviously) to the inside of the ornament. Then they put the top back on when the paint was dry, and for a finishing touch they had a ribbon on the hook part, and a little thank you card. I don't know if any of that made sense to you, but good luck and congratulations!

Centerpiece - square metal plates with a votive cup with merlot colored candles. On the plates find cream colored sprinkle wedding bells.
Around the plates find clear boxes and fill them with cream and silver M&M's with a merlot ribbon.

Place cards - little boxes wrapped like presents in cream colored paper with a merlot ribbon with the person's name attached to the ribbon.

What about a "Winter Wedding Land" (Winter Wonder Land). The name is cheesey I know, But alI I could come up with off the top of my head.
Instead of a traditional favor of music CDs, Candels, etc...Why not get inexpensive (i did not say cheap I said inexpensive) coffee mugs and put packets of hot cocoa in them and tie them in red ribbon and silver toule.
As for flowers, deep reds, stick with tulips, geraniums, maltese cross and of course roses, which range from the pink-red to what is called "black magic".

As for table linens, you maybe able to find a nice deep red velvet as an over lay with a cream to the floor. It all depends on you budget.
For place card holders, you may want to do a small silver frame (this will incoorporate the little bit of silver)

There is a cute centerpiece that will double as a favor. They give a christmas/winter related feeling because they use ribbon, but it's not in your face and can look tasteful:

As for place cards, there are alot of things you can do. I like the placecards that double as a nice favor:

(such as a wine bottle stoppers)
Or you can punch a hole in the corner of the card and tie it to the wedding favor.

I love the fourth idea with the ornaments and mirrors. i know this is your wedding and not a holiday party, but I think this would look beautiful with crystals hanging and candle light. Very shimmery and beautiful.
Good Luck!

i know you said not christmasy, but mistletoe is a must! it's december, and it's a wedding, so mistletoe makes sense to me. also, use evergreen branches and holly for decorations, even poinsettias because they will be so popular. you can use christmas garlands to decorate with......it's really got so much of an opportunity for decorating because of all the Christmas things that will be out then, and that will be in your colours! good luck!

My friend did one the other day, and it was super pretty. She had vases on each table (not like normal ones, but really funky ones she got from the internet) and she had it filled with some water, and the color of her rose pedals floating on top, but the vase was cool.. it kinda was like a "Bunt Cake" because it had a hole down the middle, and she put a candle. It was really cool.

I had my wedding in November 05 and used burgundy and cream. The cake had 3 square cakes stacked with chocolate swooshes and cranberries as a cake topper.
We had calla lilies in two circuler vases, one inside the other which looked amazing with calla lilies wrapped along the rim. If your interested I'll find the pic...
Another flower that's appealing was amaryllis, see pics
