What you are REALLY asking, is how can you get more for the money you have available.
It depends where you live, and the availabilty of goods and services that you need. In a large city---the variety of outlets are numerous, so you have choice. In a small community, the choice is obviously less. I use the asian shops for foodstuffs, the charity shops for odds and ends, and the web site, fixture ferretsco.uk, for supermarket comparrisions.
I sincerly hope this information helps, but please remember, there isnt any pockets in a shroud----so if you have got it---spend it !!! A good web site to use is www.entitledto.co.uk

First you have to make the necessary number of years N.I. contributions to obtain the maximum standard pension (it's 30 if you reach 65 (60 if female) after 2010 )

That's it, unless your are a higher rate tax payer and are still contracted in to SERPS (this will add another few pence a week .. not much I know, but then the main pension is only £87.30 as of Apr 2007 a week ..)

Of course if you are poor, then you can claim various benefits to add to your pension.

Oh - and don't retire to a country outside EU (expect USA I believe) - otherwise our "Oh so benevolent" Government will 'freeze' your pension on the day you depart (and you will miss out on the annual increase)

Usually a pension pay out increases with the number of years you work and how late in life you choose to collect.
