I have a 96 Dodge Ram 1500, and it feels like the tranny is going out. (For more details, see one of my other questions that has all the information and details on this problem: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiyMFO0Czqg0kBcll6Y_ekTsy6IX?qid=20070831215850AAHsYZH)

So should I get a new tranny? What kind should I get? How much would that be? And instead of getting another stock 4-speed automatic, should I upgrade to like a 5-speed automatic or even a manual? And how much more would that cost?

have you had it backflushed & the filter changed ? this transmission still has 2 adjustable bands, they adjust them when they change the filter. if its bad they will also want to change the radiator because when its full of trash or the checkvalve gets stuck it will quickly burn up your new tranny.
it will probably run a little over $2000 to get them changed.

See how much to repair the 1 you have and find out if there is another trans that will fit your tr>Manual is not a good idea as there is a lot of extra parts needed>

you can get an aftermarket 5 speed because dodge didn't make a 5 speed auto but a 6 speed auto for 2007.so either find another tranny or get an aftermarket 5 or 6 speed that will work with your truck . also need to make sure that your transmission computer will be compatible for a 6-speed or get another one
