A few years ago I saw a cartoon that depicted two angels in heaven looking at a sign. The sign read, "Keep your religion to yourself." One of the angels said to the other, "Ironically, that's why it's so peaceful here."

Think of the wars that have been fought in the name of "religion." Think of the families torn apart because of religion. Think of the terrorists who kill themselves and others because of religion.

God weeps.

Religion was't very big with the governments of the U.S.S.R and the Peoples' Republic of China, but they managed to be mortal enemies all the same.

Human beings will always have valued worldviews, healthy or otherwise. It's a little like asking, "Would the world be a more peaceful place if human cultures didn't exist?"

Religion has been involved in a lot of non-peace: violence, wars, etc, but religion has also been a force for peace and reconciliation.

The real cause of violence and non-peace is not religion, or for that matter, any of the other things you could blame: politics, race, language, ethnicity, nationality, philosophy, economics. The real cause of it is selfish human nature. As long as human nature remains selfish, there will be violence, injustice, and oppression.

I don't think the world would be anything like it is now without religion - I mean that in a good way.

At this very moment, I think eliminating religion might be a positive decision. We have governments that create and decide on "morality"... that was one of religion's original purposes.

I suggest you watch the "Go God. Go! Part 1-2" episodes of South Park for the (funny yet sad) answer to this. Season 10 ep 12-13.

IMO violence is part of human nature. Unfortunately.

No. There have been plenty of wars that had nothing at all to do with religion (e.g. World War 1, the American civil war, the Vietnam war, various wars of independence throughout the world), so I'm sure the same would happen if religion didn't exist.

People who want to fight will always find an excuse, religion or no religion.
Plus, there are millions, even billions, of peaceful people to which we can give their respective religions/spiritual practices credit.

heck No. Where do u think our Laws came from? u think we just made them up? Original law is in the Bible: Exodus 20. where the 10 commandments are written, and that is the base for all morality, and Law.
And i also think that some religions are so screwed up they would kill their own family if they thought they would get to Heaven. Even themselves. And it starts with "My religion is better then yours; Convert to my religion or u die."

When it comes to My faith, i'll tell u what i believe and why i believe it...the next step is your choice.
