I remember Jeff Burton doing a similar thing during the All Star race a few years ago.

I do my own stats sheet every race.
This is not a new rule, it was a result of electronic scoring. Nascar does not assign pit stalls, teams pick their pitstall based on where they will start on the Race. Pole sitter gets first pick, 2nd place, 3rd, to 43rd. The team picks what they think will be the best to their advantage. The first stall is the most popular, because it is an easy exit. Kyle Busch's team probably chose a stall good for them, that just happen to be before the start/finish line. Jr pitted just past the start/finish line, so he pass the line before Kyle.
This could occur at almost any race track. The reason I say most, it depends where the Start/Finish line is. Some tracks' line is closer to turn 1.

The points would have gone to any driver in Junior's position on the track. He was in the right place at the right time. The rule on leading a lap does not change just because the start finish line runs through pit road. Smart move on Junior and his crews part.

Fair? Absolutely!!! I think that some of the not so popular drivers have benefited from this move in the past, the commentators just don't mention it. This just solidifies that Dale Jr. really does know how to race.
All is fair in love and war.

I recall it happening in the past, but I don't think it really matters, because he also led a lap under green. Either way, he was going to get the points for leading a lap.

If you lead a lap anywhere on the track including the pits you are scored 5 points for leading that lap unless you have already led a lap in that race

Is this a serious question. Three reasons why you have never heard of this benefitting another driver.
1) You don't pay attention.
2) They don't mention it when it usually happens...because it was not Dale Jr. and he was not in 12th.
3) Are you seriously crying over this?

Yes everone was going to pit. Kyle B pit box was before the finish/start line so it was dale now in the lead and cross the start/finish before anyone else therefore crossing the line first, being the leader getting 5 points then he proceeds to his pitbox.

While I can't really remember it happening before I didn't find it all that suprising a laps,a lap.Doesn't matter where you are when you complete it.But Iam amussed by your "grassy knoll" conspiracy thoughts.Nascar and the "media" didn't set this up,because its the #8 car,it just worked out that way.

What matters is who crosses the line first. Not favoring Jr. It just worked out that way.
