When I get a new kitten, I keep them in the bathroom for about a week until they become my best friend. Then I familiarize them with a house slowly. I let them out for an hour or two at a time for the next two-three weeks, making sure that I close off any room that I might lose them in. Once they seem comfortable in the larger environment, then I leave the bathroom open and slowly let them explore new rooms one at a time until they are familiar with the whole house. Depending on the size of you house this may take weeks.
I choose the bathroom because it is small, quiet, and the whole family will get to visit the new kitty often.
It's my understanding that cats are territorial creatures. They love to explore and test new surrounding. Especially kittens because everything is new. I do this because I've seen kitties get stressed out very easy.
Also, it is a good idea to get a collar with a bell on it. Baby kitties are very small and easy to squish if you don't know where they are.
PS. The technique above is a very good way to bring a new kitty into a home that already has feline friends.

ok if they are lost right now here is what you do.
1. close all the doors, bathroom door, basment door, bedrooms doors, EVERY door in the house.
2. first search the bedrooms and keep the door closed while you search the bedrooom. because if the kitten in a cetain room then they wont be able to leave and go into another room.
3... search all the rooms and if you still cant find them
bribe then with food or catnip and sread catnip around a couch to attract them . good luck

When they're all in one room start closing doors so that they can't get into other parts of the house.

search one room at a time, then close it off.
search the cabinets, closets, and under & behind furniture.
search INSIDE the furniture (my cat was gone for hours once--went frantic trying to find him, he was inside the couch!!)
when you find them put bells on their collars.

Get a collar with a bell and get the mother spayed, then you don't have any problem.
