Not wishing to be gross here, but my boyfriend's trainers are a no-go zone despite him being the cleanest person ever, with relatively new trainers (worn maybe 10 times so far), always worn with shoe liners (I don't know the name of the little socky-things that you wear with trainers. Can anyone tell me the name of those too?!) So, what can he do to reduce this problem?!?
Thanks!

sprinkle baking soda inside the shoes and then shake it out when ready to wear them again. it absorbs the odor a lot. also, crumpled up newspaper absorbs a lot of odor. he could do baking soda and newspaper once and week and then every day he takes them off, put just newspaper in it (because baking soda is kind of a pain).

3 things you need to do.

1) Air dry the sneakers every time. Do NOT leave them in the bag after training.
2) Fresh socks every time.
3) Drink lots of water. 2 Liter during the day and at least 1 liter for every hour of training.

These three things will diminish sweaty feet and will reduce the chance of bacteria to 'nest' in your sneakers and smell them up.

Of course you can always use chemical stuff to reduce the smell but these tips will prevent that from happening.

Do what the other folks have said and also wash the trainers in the washing machine to give them a good cleaning.

Wear socks made of a natural fabric, keep feet dry and clean and treat any infections.
If that doesn't work the man just has smelly feet!

another thing you can do is wrap them up well in a plastic bag(or 2) and stick em in the freezer. the bacteria will get frozen and die. leave them overnight to make sure they get well frozen. works, honest.
