My mother is on Seroquel & Zanex. She has extreme insomnia. She has been taking this combo for 5 + yrs now. She wants to stop taking all meds but can't seem to find a solution to the sleep problem. At her last appointment the doctor wanted to take her off the zanex & increase her seroquel. The seroquel is the one that worries me. I've been hearing a lot of bad things about it. When my mom brought up the risks of the seroquel to the doctor she said "that's all a bunch of hoey to scare people". I have researched & there seems to be a HUGE risk associated with this drug and diabetes. Should a doctor be dismissing health risks like this? Why would she?

No get another opinion get a different doctor. Both drugs are bad and she should be gradually taken off the Zanex other wise problems could occur. Also being on both for so long is troubling. There are new drugs being introduced daily it seems. Why hasn't she been introduced to any new meds.
Get a second opinion even if insurance wont pay it is worth the cost.

Tshere's very few prescribed medicines that don't have
various warnings and/or side effects. The bottom line is
keeping a dialog with your doctor and either trusting his/
her judgement and/or git a second opinion or a different
doctor that you have confidence in. In my opinion, those
boys and girls know their stuff and are open to question.

doctors, like anyone else, form their own opinions about things they deal with on a daily basis. If you don't trust the doctor's opinion, get a second opinion.
