I turned 21 and tried my first drink about 1 month after I turned 21. I tried a sangria, it's too much alcohol in it. I tried my mom's Margarita, and that was pretty not too much Alcohol in it. The other day I tried champagne, but that was too strong for me as well. Do you think I can't handle it because I just started it.? Don't worry I won't be a alcoholic or anything. I will only drink once in a blue moon. I've drinking sprite since I 12 years old. I think I will just stick to sprite.

Like I said I will only drink once in a blue moon. I take maybe 2 or 3 sips of something, and I'm through with it. I've tried others and just spit it out.

Hey!! be smart and let your tongue be your guide!! Most of us won't ever taste more than 2 or 3 different alcoholic flavors in a lifetime. I don't like it. I don't like the buzz in my brain!!

Sprite is a very good drink!! Congratulations on growing up!! You just passed with flying colors!!! You are a sensible adult!

The harshness of the alcohol is something you can get used to. There are also other flavors that are acquired tastes, especially among beer and wine.
If you want a drink, try a glass if white zinfandel. It is a good starter wine. Most wine drinkers frown upon it, but there is nothing wrong with a good white zin. In fact it goes quite nicely with a cookout. It is a semi-sweet, mild wine without a lot of strong flavors. As you get used to that, you can start trying more "serious" wines like cabernet, shiraz, merlot, chardonnay, pinot grigio and others.
As for mixed drinks and liqour, it takes a bit more to get used to. Start with drinks with decent proportions of juices or sodas, and with flavors you like. Rum & Coke. Dark Rum and Ginger ale. Maybe a bloody mary if you like tomato juice. Screwdriver(OJ & Vodka) or a Hairy Navel (OJ, Vodka & Peach Schnapps.)
Then you can go on to other mixed drinks. Mai Tai's are especially good, and several people I know who often don't like strong drinks like them quite a bit. (1 part each lime, orgeat syrup, orange curacao, 3 parts white rum, shaken with ice and strained. Float 2 parts dark rum on top. Garnish with a cherry and a slice of orange, or any other fruit that is nearby.) Next thing you know you'll have developed a pallette sophisticated enough to walk into the swankiest bar in town and order a dry martini, and drink it with style.

It's probably your taste buds trying to tell you something. ;) Alcoholic drinks are a waste of money, and the side effects can be dangerous and unhealthy, so it might be better to just quit before you do get the taste for it. Only drink if you find something you like the taste of, and even then be safe. You usually can't taste a lot of alcohol in sweet wine and wine coolers, but then the less you can taste it the more you tend to over do it.

Don't worry about drinking... it's highly over rated. If you want to try something pour half of glass of sangria, fill the rest with sprite. Put it in a fancy glass add a cute lil umbrella.

Sangria is nasty.

You need to get started with some midori sours and orange creamsicles.

Flavored margaritas are really good too, ask for it without salt and it's a lot better.

As far as champagne, the only kind I can stand is Korbel. I was given 2 fancy bottles from work last year, and they tasted like ***. Nothing wrong with cheap champagne!

My son is 22 and has never had a drink in his life, and doesn't ever plan on it. He has plent of friends who drink, and those who don't. You don't have to drink alcohol - it's not a requirement when you turn 21. So if you don't like the taste, don't drink it!

I agree with kimmer727 however, if there is a special occasion and you would like to have a drink wine coolers are really good. They come in umpteen different flavors and you can barely taste the alcohol in them. I'm not much of a drinker either, but I do like wine coolers...and beer.

Some people don't like alcohol. I have a friend who is over 40, who just doesn't like the taste of booze. There is nothing wrong with that.

It takes awhile to build a tolerance just like with anything else. The more you drink the less you can taste the alcohol...just like with pain meds..if you take a lot of them eventually you will have to up your dosage to feel the relief. If your not into drinking then dont..just be responsible
