I would guess that IF you are HIRED you will need to provide your SS number for your tax forms and as identification you are a legal citizen. And the driver's license is also ID but perhaps required for the job. Otherwise I would show them you have both but not allow them to make copies unless a solid employment offer is made and you are filling out employment papers.
In this era of ID theft, you have to be careful who you share either with.

There is a good chance that they are hiring most people that walk through the door. They use your SS# and Driver's license to fill out your tax information as required by law when hiring a new person.

depends on what type of job ur ae applying for..
telemarketing.. they will most likely hire u on the spot..and u need to have them with u to fill out the necessary forms.. in order to go to work...
if it is a office job.. most all jobs now run a credit history on applicant.. they need that information..
the drivers lie..
if it is a driving job..
they want to run a check to see if u have a valid frovers lie.. and want to know ur diving history.. plus..
the want to verify ur age and address at well...

that you have your social security card with you and your drivers licence or a state issued ID card. They want you to prove that you are who you say you are and you have a right to work in this country.
