Yes of course it was a long shot, I don't know much I think it must have been taken late 30s early 40s. There is not much on the back of the photo to date it by.

It looks like an Army(?) photo. If you know which Regiment, they might be able to help. If you know the approximate date and Regiment, try posting on military forum. Perhaps someone there could help. Try to give as much information as possible.
