What did you do with it when you stopped ascribing to your parents' views?

I lost mine in high school art class when we were doing paper mache, must have slipped off my finger. I took it as a sign from God.

I never went to a "purity ball" (never head of them until a couple days ago) and never pleged my virginity to anyone. My parents just gave me a ring that meant that I thought God didn't want me to have sex before marraige.

My parents were open minded Christians. I can see my dad's face if I had told him about a Purity Ball. He would have laughed as hard as I do now.

No, my parents did not do this.
Yes, they were around.
I would never do this to my children either. Instead I teach them what the Bible says about sex outside of marriage.

I'm with the non-believers and insulters on this one. It strikes me as super-creepy. Especially the dad/daughter angle.
And it almost works against itself. If you were a teenager with a purity ring, can you imagine how much MORE often you'd be thinking about sex, every time you or someone else noticed your ring...? There you are, in class, bored, twirling your ring around....yikes.
Lex semper accusat.
To me, it's a joke.
And yes, I am a Christian.

PS Haha---good one about art class....
Somehow I'm channeling Demi Moore/Patrick Swayze in "Ghost." Was it like that for you?

They didn't exist when I was a kid, but I definitely grew up in a very Christian household.

LOL, I misread your question on the first pass and thought that a purity ball must be something given to the boys, while girls got rings.

My family didn't go to church, we believed in God but we believed that the church was an evil institution that only wants money (some do). I bought myself a ring when I started to come to find Jesus as my savior. I took it off the day of my wedding and I'm very proud of myslef. I still believe in God and I know Jesus to be my lord and Savior. It is somthing between God and I, not my parents and I.

I think I'm just barely too old to have been hit with that wave. But there was an "abstinence club" at my high school. I'm not sure what they did at their meetings, although, I guess they probably didn't have sex.

Then again, there wasn't much sex happening in my HS clubs... I might have been the only person on the basketball team AND the AV club though. You'd think that'd get you laid, but, no, not really.

Do you see why I love Skallite??? I just love him to pieces!

Ok, to answer your question, NO, I was never given a purity ring and am so THANKFUL. It would've made me feel even worse guilt for having sex with my boyfriend (at 18 yrs old) then I already did!

Ya...my ex's parents gave her a purity ring AFTER she had sex with more than 1 guy...lol funny...I think it had to due with parents wanting their kids to abstain from sex...but obviously a ring wont do that.

(SHE ENDED UP LOSING IT, PROBABLY IN SOME RANDOM GUYS SHEETS SOMEWHERE)

I'm sorry if you do, but i don't believe in purity rings, a ring's a ring. you can only be pure with God not a ring your parents gave (you in my opinion.)

No, my parents didn't believe that was from god. They believed that christ in your heart was all you needed, so the issue never came up and honestly, this is the first time I've heard of one. What does it represent and what is it supposed to do?

When I was a kid we didn't have purity rings and since I didn't wear jewelry then as I was a gear-head and jock, I wouldn't have accepted it anyways.
