My cat is about 15 yrs old and has come back form being in kennels a week ago and has been coughing quite badly ever since. She sounds quit congested and seems to cough more when she moves fast or run. Its a kind of violent rasping/hacking sound. Does anyone have any ideas what i can do for her or what this might be. I have thought it mite be some kind of kennel cough but its her congestion thats worrying me a bit.
Any advice would b greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It sounds like a respitory infection that she may have caught at the kennel or from the stress of being away from home. This is not uncommon in young and old cats. I would take her ASAP to the vet. She needs to be put on antibiotics. It can be very serious if not treated.

You should immediately take her back to the vet. She might have caught somebody from one of the other cats or dogs in the kennel, but this is also sometimes a symptom of heart disease, or even heart worm. My cat is 12 and had a cough also, and it turned out she is hyperthyroid. They will probably do some blood work and examine her.....I hope she's okay.

Is anything coming up when he coughs? It might well be a fur ball but if it Carry's on I would advise you to see a vet they are the best people to ask and if there is something wrong with your cat he can treat it. But he could have athsma I don't know if cat could get it or not, just a suggestion.

Since it's been a week, it's time to go to the vet. It might be a respiratory infection or irritation, asthma, pneumonia, or it could be allergies. One of my furballs was coughing, and the vet said it was one of these possibilities.
