You'll be working out of Stewart, yes? The nearby towns - within a 15 minute drive - are Newburgh, Montgomery, Washingtonville, Rock Tavern, and Beacon. (Beacon is a straight run on 84 - about 3 exits.) Montgomery and Washingtonville/Rock Tavern are on the pricier end. City of Newburgh *CAN* be cheaper than town of Newburgh (yep. There's a difference.) Beacon can also be cheaper - but then you have to factor in the $1 toll to get across the bridge.

If you do a search on www.rent.com for New Windsor - you'll get 8 listings in the area. The first two are 5-7 minutes' drive from the airport, but the other tenants are bit unsavory. The next one is 20 minutes or so drive time - it's across the river. The remaining ones, rent.com SAYS they're 15-20 miles but you're looking at 45-60 minutes' drive time with traffic. www.apartments.com doesn't give much better options. www.roommateclick.com - you might be able to find a decent roommate.

New Windsor isn't a bad area. It's in the Newburgh-Beacon area in Orange County about 60 miles north of the city. Cost of living is going to be most likely above $250,000 if you're plaining on buying. Good luck there are several other areas around the New Windsor area that are nice as well. Beacon is across the Hudson in Dutchess County.
