Yes, it is illegal to park an uninsured or UNTAXED! vehicle on the road, so why not put it in a friends garage or in a garden?
Ask a local repairs garage if they will sell it for you, they could chain it up outside and put a for sale sign on it for you.

I am afraid that you will need to produce insurance documents to get your VED disc.
Untaxed vehicles parked on a public road can be taken away and crushed (at the owners expense).
A possible way around the system, might be to insure the vehicle for a short time, the certificate only needs to be valid on the day the VED is purchased or comes into force.
I would suggest storing the vehicle off the public road and declaring it SORN.
Let the buyer sort out his own insurance and VED.

Yes, it's a pain! But if it's parked on a public road, you have to have it taxed and insured.
When you think of the amount of lunatics that are actually DRIVING on the road without even passing their test, let alone having insurance, tax disc, OR MOT.... it makes me even more annoyed. But that's the law, and I'm really impressed that you are a law abiding citizen who wants to do the right thing.
Some of the others have suggested parking it off road. If that's a possibility, do that. But you won't be able to legally ride it.

when the dvla send you your Renell form out to tax your scooter you either tax it for 6 or 12 months but their is a section were you claim what their call a sorn which means you still own the bike but its of the road so you don't have to tax it but if you go on the road with the bike and you get caught the bike is redeemed to have no road tax and it can be impounded or even crushed

You'll have to find somewhere to park it off road and get a SORN (statutory off road notice) against the vehicle. This can be done on a standard vehicle tax form. Otherwise you are lumbered with insuring it to get tax.

You will only get tax if the scooter has got insurance.
The only way around this is to phone the DVLA up and declare the vehicle S.O.R.N untill you sell it.
But the only thing about this is that the scooter CANNOT be kept on the main road.

In the UK you have to have insurance before you can tax your vehicle. Is there no way you can park it off the road until you can sell it as that way you could declare it off road and get a SORN (statutory off road notification)? This way you won't have to insure it.

You can't get tax without insurance and if your not going to be using it again you declare it of road (sorn) and it must be kept of the road. It is all done electronically (MOT Tax & Insurance, so there is no-way out of it im afraid.
I declared my car off road and they still took it and it was on Private grounds too (a few years ago now)
