At Samhain our group usually holds a private ritual where we remember our beloved dead, offer them food and drink, and burn pieces of flash paper on which we've written things that we want to get rid of. We also often enact the myth of "The Goddess in the Kingdom of Death":

This year I'll be remembering my mother, who died in June. It's going to be a very sad occasion.

We go to cabins in the woods. Carve Jack o' lanterns. Play games. We construct a symbolic veil (between worlds) open it at the beginning and close it at the end. Tell stories of those that have passed, and set out places for them. Have a bonfire and a big feast. Sometimes we will do a play regarding legends and deities related to the history of Samhain or involving the afterlife. We write what we want to leave behind in the new year on paper and burn them. Toward the end of the night it is basically a costume party. We do things a bit differently each time, depending on who organized it that year. We are an eclectic group, mostly pagans, including a few agnostics and open minded christians, so we do our best to appeal to everyone's ideas.

cast a private circle when the veils feels thin, take a walk and look around alone, feel the Earth turning, remember the dead, light candles and wait for vision, write poetry honoring those who have past,
and on the "regular" side of it, greet the little kids and big kids with candy and watch spooky movies, and have a big Halloween party for my students, many of whom are from China and have never heard of either Samhain or Halloween.
I have a good time for this time of year!

I'd like to have a small silent supper for those who have passed on, light a few candles in honor of the holiday, and celebrate the new year.

Winter Nights isn't as big a deal to us as it is to other trads, BUT the UU Church I attend is having a big Halloween Festival that my Earth Spirit group is helping out with and we'll do a circle at the church that everyone is invited to. Knowing us we'll go out to eat, because we always do.
On the actual date, I am taking m daughter trick or treating.

I'm also not sure yet. I'm still getting set for Mabon. My grandmother passed less than a year ago, so a portion of my celebration will be in her honor, along with all the ancestors.

I'm handing out treats and watching black and white horror classics. :)
But I'll also offer libations in honor of my ancestors. And at the very least I'll put some apples and corn on my altar and light candles for rememberance.
