is this a smart move? Unless Darian Grubb wanted to step down as the crew chief I feel this is a mistake. Jr is TOO comfortable with Tony and I thinks it influences the way he seems to challenge him on changes to the car and race/pit strategies. Your thoughts.

I wholeheartily agree. I've said that before. I think a new crew chief would have been great. *sigh* I almost hate to see this happen in the sense that now if Jr doesn't win races with HMS are the fans going to start blaming Eury Jr??

A clean break was the way to go in my opinion.

I was sort of looking forward to a new crew chief for him, I thought Alan G, would have been great or even Darian G.. HMS is a class act organization, Tony Jr will have to become a true HMS chief, and if it doesn't work, he'll be gone in a flash. I hope it works out for the best...as far as being a smart move....only next yr will tell..

I agree with you. It seems all they do is argue about what they are gonna do with the car when it comes time to pit, Jr needs someone who will take charge, not argue with him! A driver tells the Crew Chief whats wrong with the car and the Crew Chief then tells the driver what they will do to make it better! It doesn't happen in Jr and Tony Eury's case, they argue like little brothers! Oh well I guess family needs to stick together!

Go RCR!!!!
Go Jeff Burton!!!!

I think it would be best for Jr and probably Eury Jr too. When you find a crew chief that you work well with you stick with them. They have been together for Jr's entire racing career (including his 2 Busch Championships) except the 1 year where they switched his and Waltrip's team. They understand each other and the switch didn't work out for either so they switched it back.

He probably feels stuck in the middle or Jr and Teresa at DEI. Jr is family. Teresa just married into the family but is his boss.

I think it's an excellent move. If you can't take the No. 8 or Budweiser, take your crew chief.

There was a good question asked during the race Sunday. Do you think the No. 8 car is being sabbotaged by someone at DEI because Jr. is leaving the company? I mean 4 blown engines in one season? That's unheard of.

There are so many pros and cons to the subject one could write a book. In short (as a pro) they would learn more as a group and make comparison to what they had as to what they will have in the future or (as a con) they could keep making the same mistakes. I prefered Tony Sr as Dale Jrs. crew chief.

There is more in play here besides driver-crew chief....this decison is about family, the implosion at DEI is about family and what you are seeing is the lines drawn for those to side with Jr. or the step-mom. Jr. will be fine next year and I expect more DEI employees in the shop to follow the exodus to his new team,

I am a bit surprised, but kind of understand at the same time. I have my fingers crossed that they will work successfully together with the new team and equipment. I don't blame Jr. for wanting to keep some family w/ him. That is what it all use to be about anyway. And, of course you can't blame Tony. . .I mean stay w/ Teresa or go with Jr. . .hmmm, lol.

i think of Jr could have started clean. i think of Tony Jr is a superb team chief, the subject is their familiarity with one yet another. Dale Jr extraordinarily lots dictates the pit and race technique calls. even while Tony shows something, if Dale does not agree he basically overrides him and does what he needs to. If he had long previous with Alan i think of he might pay attention to him and stick to orders better. Dale Jr negotiated administration over his team chief in his contract with HMS. it might come decrease back to bite him for valuable, we are able to quickly see.

Huge mistake,I mean HUGE.It's been my opinion for a couple years that Jr.'s biggest problem is he walks all over Eury Jr..After some initial success,Jr. started to run things on the #8 team and even went so far as to switch Eury Jr. off his car. While I know I'm not going to make fans out of the Dale Jr. followers,he needs to shut-up and drive.I was thinking coming to HMS would give him the fresh start and fresh perspective on what his job is.I'm shocked Eury will crew chief with him,all I can say is Eury Jr.'s sucking up to Hendrick has paid off. This can't be good news for Dale Jr. fans.
