Here's one thing I can tell you: Alot of people who don't go to college immediately after high school never go, despite their intentions of going back "someday". There are exceptions to the rule, of course, but those people I know that went back after a couple years had a strong sense of purpose in their lives that frankly impresses the hell out of me. I don't know you, so I don't know how strong you are in your ability to make a decision and stick by it, but think long and hard before you decide you'll just go to college "someday".

I would personally recommend you go to a school in L.A. or New York City and pursue your career on the side while you get a degree. You can get a degree in theatre or music if you really want to, or major in something else like business that would counterbalance your acting/singing skills and make you a true threat to the entertainment industry (if they're scared of you, they'll try like hell to get you on their side. Ask Robert Rodriguez).

Anyway, only you know if college is the best path for you. Just think long and hard before you "put it off for a year" because the statistics of that "year" ever coming are not in your favour.

In college you can major in theater or vocal performance and train to become an actress/singer. You don't have to choose between the two. =)

Being a theater major gives you moderate exposure that you'd have a hard time finding on your own. More actors and actresses in Hollywood have attended college than those who have not.

They have performing ensembles in most colleges, and vocal programs that offer lessons and opportunities to showcase yourself to the public. Look for a school that has a good theater program, and a good music program, and it's really going to be worth your while.

You don't need to choose between a good education and persuing your dreams. Do both; intertwine the two. It's a win-win situation.

Plus, the college experience is really worthwhile. Trust me, you'll love it. You'll meet so many people who are interested in the same things you are, and you'll have a chance to perfect your craft and have a much better chance of succeeding and making your dreams come true.

=) You'll enjoy yourself and be thankful that you did, trust me.

Good luck!!

Well a good way to become a singer/actress is to go to a performing arts college. I want to be a singer so i know a lot about the subject.

You should go to college unless you have real talent and know people. Networking is critical. You can study theater in college. What do you want to do as a singer or actress? Where do you see yourself? What is your experience? You need to consider all of this and remember that singing/acting is highly competitive. Do you want to deal with the competition and stress? Are you prepared? How far are you willing to go? How strong are you? Will it make you happy? Would you be happy doing community theater? Where is your real passion? Would you be happy doing regional theater? Do you love literature and plays?

I think everyone not only should go, but need to go.

My dad put it well - college isn't just about a higher education, it's about learning to live life. You will gain skills you otherwise would not. You will learn social skills, how to be responsible for yourself, your health, your bills, and your belongings. I loved it for those reasons.

Further, today, a college education is what a high school education was 10+ years ago. Most well paying jobs will want to see that you went to college. You will be paid more in a job if you attended college, versus if you did not.

Well unless you're a VERY good singer/actress I think you should go to college. I think you should go to college anway because if your career as an actress/singer doesn't work out, college can bring way more opportunities. So unless you're REALLY sure you can pull this off, I would suggest college.

I think that you should at least start at college. You can take some acting and singing classes and put you in touch with other people in the business. If you decide to finish school and get a degree, then you will always have that to fall back on if singing and acting doesn't work out or you decide to get out of it.

There is no reason you can not do both. There are colleges that are out there that specialize in Acting/Theater. College is now more important then ever. Even if you can not find one near to you that specialize in this you can at least start the core subjects there while still pursuing your dreams. Good luck

More people graduate from college than become actors /actresses. People with an education also tend to make more money or have jobs that they are happy with.

Why not pursue your dream by going to college and taking drama classes? Many acotrs and actresses started in such mundane ways.
