Hello, My husband and I have been together for 6 years and married for 4. We now have an adorable little girl who is almost 9 months old. He had a child from a previous marriage who was adopted last month by his ex-wifes new husband. Our daughter was diagnosed with Asthma when she was only 5 months old but has had it since she was born. Our daughters doctor told me that I need to be a stay at home Mom in order to take care of our daughter because most of the daycares in our area are un-able to deal with her special needs for her asthma. However financially we can't afford to loose my income and my boss is definetly not happy about the number of days I'm missing due to her condition. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

My husband can't modify his hours because his a manager of a high volume casino. I can't work nights while he is home because he can't get up with the baby because he leaves for work at 4:30 a.m and gets home at 7-8pm each night. He has been with his company for 13 years and makes the same as a manager who started yestarday....(he is putting in a request for a raise....but we aren't confident he will get one).

You may be able to get disability income for your daughter (up to about $600 per month) that you can use to pay for your monthly expenses. In the state of Florida, we have a lot of benefits for children with medical issues. Here (in FL at least) you can get all medically needy children's care funded by Children's Medical Services (I am sure you have something similar in your area-we pay $20 a month and everything else is covered),apply for WIC (checks for cheese, milk, eggs, etc.. and the income requirements are really high so most everyone qualifies!) and you may also qualify for other federal or state assistance depending on your husband's income.

Get in touch with your local Department of Children and Familes (or similar agency) for assistance with finding an child advocate (helps you cut through all the red tape and get assistance faster-there is no charge for this) and all available services you qualify for your family. When children are young-most state governments step in to assist and so try not to worry too much-there is help. My sons (2 and 3) have speech, hearing and learning issues. I am home caring for them with assistance from the government. It is OK to ask for help. I felt guilty at first-but in the end-you need to think about your child and her needs-that is what I did. If I can help further, let me know. I have been offered a job as a child advocate but I cannot take it due to my children's needs-so I am here to help others for free when I can. Good luck and God Bless.

Would it be possible for your husband to work a different shift? Or could you take a different shift so one of you is always home with your daughter?

Maybe you could modify your lifestyle for the time being. For instance my husband is going back to school at night to earn his ASE Certification (and has quit his job and is staying home with our two children during the day while I work). When he has his certification he'll be able to get a much better paying job and maybe I'll stay home with the kids. But for the time being we're a one car family, we live in an apartment instead of a house, etc.

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.

I cured my Asthma the natural way?

Does your company offer any program where you can work from your home? If not, you could always do some babysitting in your home to bring in some $$. You can also create an ebay business. Maybe you can also work in a daycare center yourself - then you could probably get a discounted rate for your daughter and be nearby in case she does have an asthma attack.
